How does the locking system work on my 2011 Dispatch

I purchased a 2011 dispatch but unfortunately I have no manual. It's got the usual self locking system which I can't get to grips with.
It seems if it self locks when a door is still opened it will not lock that door when it's closed.
However my issue is I opened the back door with the key rather than the remote and it seems to ensure its locked I now need to turn the key twice in the back door to ensure that it's locked.
When I think that all doors locked with the remote and I try the back door if it opens the side doors unlock. Can someone please explain how this system is supposed to work. Thanks
