WaterTemp info?

I have had my 2005 Scudo 2.0 JTD SX. for 11months. The temp gauge varies between 70-75c no matter what the weather is.
Is this normal, or should I check the thermostat?
Cheers all

Re: WaterTemp info?

My 1.9 was around 80. I would not read to much into the gauge and use it just as a guide. If your heater is warm rather than hot then yes, could be a sticking thermostat but your sender unit may also be on the way out or just wanting taken out and cleaned. If the fan is kicking in when parked up and engine running i would leave it. If the heater is starting to run cool with no loss of coolant then i would be looking at the thermostat and possibly sender bolt.

Temp on my 2002 1.9d is rock steady no matter what temp it is outside. Only time it gets to half way is near the top of alpine  hills in first gear.

Funny you should say that as mine was almost at 90 when going up a mountain down the Black Forrest. It got to cool a bit when i pulled over to let a line of cars past and a petrol tanker, oh the shame. Coming back down the other side was no different. Had to pull over to let the brakes cool down  big_smile

Re: WaterTemp info?

Yea mine's consistently at 80 degrees, right in the middle. Only when I sit idling does it go towards 90, when the fan kicks in.

Interestingly I put another dash in and it reads 5 degrees extra

Re: WaterTemp info?

Thanks All for the advice
Heater is not as hot as it's usually is during summer, especially with this cold spell. So first thing to do is check the thermostat, or replace it. But not till the weather warms up

Re: WaterTemp info?

Yea my heater's terrible, but that's since I had an oil cooler leak - I think my heater matrix is clogged up.

Like you I intend to address it when it's warmer, but then it's not a problem so I haven't bothered. I curse myself every time it gets cold =/

Re: WaterTemp info?

Mine also is rock steady at just under the half way mark.....
The only time Ive seen it pass into the second half of guage was climing a steepish 5km long  hill on the motorway in the Pyrinees and it kept us down a gear trying to muster 50mph and it was something like 30 degrees outside temp................

I admit my backside did give a twich
