Trying to camperize my Fiat Scudo (second try)

Hey everyone

Last year I kinda camperize my van on a gipsy style and was not that comfortable.
Using bad wood and an inflatable mattress is not the best option.
Speaking with friends I found that the best wood is the plywood made by populus.
I found a wood warehouse which sells it for a good price (124cmx90cm), 15€.
It has a small water stain, but due that I want to paint and varnish it, it doesn´t really matter.
Actually this van it’ll be just for few months till I’ll get a bigger one, so I don’t wanna invest a lot of money.
First of all, I removed the back seats and measure it carefully. Then I design all the furniture modules.
The worst part was the table, so I had to make a bloody engineering work.
Also got stock cutting the plywood, all the cuts have to be damn straight. With a normal circular saw it’s kinda impossible, so I took a look on Amazon and found a circular saw track.
With it all the cuts are so straight and precise.
Other tools like, self centering jig, router bits, push button lock and so, are from AlieExpress hahahahaha.
Still have to assemble the last two modules, I think tomorrow will be all done. Then next step for the furniture is to sand, paint and varnish.
Next thing is to remove all panels and insulate the entire van.
Also have to think on an interior side surf rack.
These days I might purchase the foam for the bed. 6cm high density and 4cm memory foam. I found a very good deal on a Spanish website, 190cmx130cm cut in 5 pieces for 150€.
In the In the meantime, I also rehydrate all the plastics and remove weird stains.

You certainly put a lot of thought into it.

And a lot of work too. Will the units transfer into the bigger van?

No, I'll just sell it like it is. Here in Spain people are getting crazy about campers and vans.

The next one has to be high/big enough coz my gfr wants a shower hahaha. Actually after a surf session in the north of Spain a hot shower is the best thing u can have.

Today I finish all modules. Tomorrow I'll install them to see how it looks.

A lil' update
I had to remove the floor to visualise the points I can use to screw the furniture. I was suprised to see that the floor is insulated with few cm of high density of polyurethane foam. I also noticed that bellow of it was full of s*it n dirt.

So I had to vacuum and clean it.

This will be the table. Still need to do some things to make it bigger. During the process I drilled my index finger and cut a tenton LOL, so now I can't work.

Almost done ...

Next step was, remove everything and insulate. Due that I can't use my left hand my gfr and few of my friends did it for me. I was the manager of the project, drinking beer and giving orders big_smile

Every time I meet one of my friends I end up buying new things hahaha, a 90Ah extra battery and a 5kW parking heater big_smile
Removing panels I noticed that on the right side of the van (left hand drive model) there´s a nice place to fit a battery (38cm L x 23cm W x 20cm H) and on the left side, there's a hole with a plastic cover where I could fit the exhaust pipe and the air intake of the heater smile

Hopefully tomorrow I'll try to sand all units and prepare everything for the painting job.

Can't wait to install the battery and the heater.

I also put my leasure battery in that location although to get my big battery in there did have to manipulate the metal above it a bit just, I added a computer chasis fan to the hole in the floor and used as an air vent, I have a Taxi side panel there which has vent holes so it can extract moisture.

Hey that's a genius place for the battery. I've managed to squeeze my leisure battery next to the starting battery in the engine bay but I'm limited to 75Ah because of space.

I've also put my heater pipes through that handy vent in the corner. Works well.

I love your storage, looks super cosy.

That's exactly where my battery is also with a few of the electric gubins around the wheel well area

If you can find the build for Tee-Cee's "old van" IIRC he made a raised battery tray and sat it on our drivers side of inner wing and modified the screen washer filler

It would seem whither LHD or RHD the vans lay out in back is the same....
"Battery tray" and The "Vent box" in the rear left I think is just that to allow pressure difference for shutting doors ETC.... it seems to have become very handy for many to give it multiple uses

{ My batery is a very tight fit It took a little while to find a Leisure battery replacement of right height to fit and even then i had to space it out a little........... The old dud battery turned out to be off a wheel chair}

The shity part was that the shop sent me a lil bigger battery and it didn't fit in that place. So now I'm using the table unit.

It came the time to say bye bye to the "scudo furguer".
I have around 2 years thinking of selling the old van and buy a new one.
Here in Spain vans, even the 2nd hand ones, are so bloody expensive. For the actual price of one van, few years ago, you could buy two.
I was searching the Fiat Talento/Renault Trafic/Nissan NV300/Opel-Vauxhall Vivaro. I didn't want lot of things:

1.Cruise Control - indispensable
2.L2H1
3.Only 2 seats
4.At least 120HP
5.Manual gear box

I called in at least 7 big cities and nothing, no van in stock, I didn't want to wait half an year to have one.
Last one was a Fiat dealer from a city which is at 15km away from where I live. They told me that they'll suppose to recieve one, brand new, in a week or two. The price............. 21.000 + vat, not bad at all. So I told the guy the van it's mine.

3.Only 2 seats NOPE - it's the cabine crew, for 6 pasangers
4.At least 120HP YES
5.Manual gear box YES

This is the first day I saw it

First thing I did was to remove the separation

I hate the thing that it hasn't a closed glove box. I had to search on the intyernet and buy it from Portugal.

Bulbs LED instead of the normal ones.

Half of the floor done hahahahaha
It took me half a day to remove plastics and cut it perfectly round.

This is how I wanna do it

Few days ago I was bored and i tinted the two lateral windows. I didn't came that bad

Next things to do:

1. Remove pasanger bench, find a seat and install it
2. Install rear camera
3. Make the bed and install it
4. OF COURSE, FINISH THE FLOOR HAHAHA
5. Install the glove box
6. Insulate it with few types of materials
7. Buy and install a 1 din radio with 10" screen
Like this i'll keep that hole but put it below the radio

Hi Colin,
Take your time with furnituring your new project. Drilling holes in your own flesh is - apart from the beer drinking while others work - not very practical. Although I do not succeed always, I try to work slow. It's more rewarding, and even faster...
I saw you have modeled the former van (scudo, jumpy). I have had a try to do so as well. But what an effort it takes to model all these bend surfaces. Although I am beyond modeling I would be keen to look into your model.
PS
I use a 10 liter shower sac on the roof of the van, combined with a 'bus tent'.
