SW300 ish

The need for a change of scenery was overwhelming the other day, so I headed to the border on my usual sort of route.
Crossed thr border and followed the Burns Heritage Trail around the coast line picking up the GTR. I stopped in a pull in near Creetown, a short road to a pumping station. 11.5 hrs sleep due to an extra mattress, bit like the Princess and the Pea.
Headed off for Newton Stewart, Wigtown ending up in the Isle of Whithorn. Followed the coast round to Stranraer stopping off at a few places. Headed up the coast through Ballantrae and across towards S.Lanarkshire though got diverted. Dropped down and picked up a takeaway in Sanqhar before parking up on the banks of the Nith south of Glencaple.
Headed back south via a friend near Carnforth.
Short trip but I'm having a funny old time and didnt want to be away for long.
Van performed faultlessly.
No real photos tbh.

Re: SW300 ish

They will be charging you council tax if you spend much more time up there Ricko.  smile

Had quite a tour of D & G a few months ago myself.  Not for pleasure though.  It involved seeking medical attention for a woman, a dog and a decomposing dead eel all triple hooked on the same discarded fishing tackle.  Quite a day!

Next time you are up that way give me a shout. I spend quite a lot of time around there. You passed quite close to my base at Moffat.

In N Yorks just now though and just back after a surprise visit from kenbw2.  Parked up on an abandoned bridge over the River Aire and caught sight out of the corner of my eye of a blue van pulling in.  After a skipped heartbeat saw it was Ken.

Although it's an area we both know and visit often, I was only there for a few hours and Ken was only passing by on route elsewhere.  What were the chances?

Re: SW300 ish

Apart from now living in D&G, roaming about following Rally forest stages at one time also many many moons ago working off the boats in Stanraer and Cairnryan ........
I lived near Turnberry at one time  [Before moving down here].........

I have a fair Idea of where you've been ...........
There's a spot between Stranrear and the Cairn that I used at one time waiting for a boat and go now on occasion with Van ............
There's also a bit out by Kirkcolm pretty much opposite the Cairn on Loch Ryan, but it's got quite popular [or was last time I was out] .................

D&G has got a lot more to offer than folk realize ... It's more than a place to pass through to get to somewhere else ........
[I must admit I've been guilty of it]

Try the little route around the three Lochs heading towards OAT From the Tub it's really quite rewarding .......

Re: SW300 ish

I would quite happily buy a plot of land and put a shed on it for overnight stays up there. I had family at Annan when I was younger.

OAT - yes, I've bumped in to Ken in a nearby forest, he pops up everywhere.

Vaz - I drove past Turnberry and nearly left a little present for the owner on one of the greens
