Ran out off gas

As I'd said in another thread that while waiting for Lateral Flow results we Ran out of gas while boiling kettle............
There's no one to blame but me as I never checked after such a prolonged non use and having gas ... In 5 or so years of having this Van and only ever really boiling kettle and the occasional cooking we've only changed bottle once .............
It's the fairly small 4.5kg blue bottle that's in there and the first real sign of trouble was my partner saying WTF as very small flame and seemed splutery along with some difficult ignition...........

At this I suspected as although no real previous issues we hadn't used Van in anger in at least a year...........
We both thought No Worries that bike Single burner camping stove we've carried all over Europe as back up use it...............

First disappointment ... It's not there removed it around time Van got first used as extra accomodation..........
So we reverted back again to the flask of hot water we were preserving for use around  bedtime ..........

We then on route to Ayr stopped at 3 calor stockist ... none even included that in their inventory .................
The 4th had little blue bottles ... Alas all empty and told like hens teeth as all the passing Caravans and Campers grabbed them like it was Bog roll ............

At this point looked for nearest stockist which turned out to be Morrisons in Ayr which we were passing................
One more petrol station had them in a cage........ we turned round went in to get same story ...  and everything all empty .........................

We then go into Morrisons and petrol station is closed it's meant to be open till 9pm  and it's barely 5pm.............
we had food whichis only reason we're in town in first place ...
At about 6 PM we return to Morrisons ... still closed and we see what we want if there not empty.........

We decided to abandon plans and head the 70 ish miles home ................

Today it's almost Saturday again and Tesco's qued out every one panic buying fuel .............
Is that why morrions was closed ... No Fuel left?.............
And still have No Gas but I found camp stove ............

Re: Ran out off gas

It's has been getting worse since beginning of the pandemic.

Especially for the vastly overpriced Camping Gaz which is distributed by Calor.  Apparently if they have a full load of their own gas, they don't take the Camping Gaz.  I use a 907 2.72kg content about every 6 weeks.

Every time one empties I try every stockist I pass for an exchange but it is getting impossible to find.

I have resorted to buying from "unofficial" reffillers on ebay.  Usually cheaper and I have had a couple free delivery, no exchange required.

Not so now though.  Best I can find is:-

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/173557887353 … SwV49ey116

Still cheap but a 40 mile drive for me.

Re: Ran out off gas

I use red propane gas bottles. I refill them myself with LPG at local petrol stations.

Re: Ran out off gas

I too have the 4.5kg butane. Last refill was the middle of July, and even then it was ridiculously hard to get. I don't know how long I have left in this bottle (I should weigh it) but I'm concerned about winter when I go through one every 2 weeks
