Just sending out a question really.
Had my cam belt and water pump renewed a couple of weeks ago and wow, for some reason, my dear old girl seems to be running like a turbo.
I have noticed an amazing increase in performance and pickup and just generally runs so much better.
Just wondering if when the first belt was renewed at 40,000 miles, whether it is possible that they could have been one notch out on the camshaft or crankshaft pulley.
Maybe it would not even run if this was so, but someone out there may know the answer.
So much difference for sure. I am delighted ??

I have replaced the belt and waterpumps on several of the 2.0 HDI engines and in each case the timing has been out as the locking pins haven't lined up. They have all performed better afterwards so your one is possibly the same.

Never used a tool on any of the cambelts I have done, just tension the belt so that in the centre of the longest run (between camshaft and fuelpump) you can just twist the belt through 90 degrees with your thumb and finger. About the same tension as a good fitting bra strap! On the later HDI engines you just line up a pointer with a notch on the tensioner, simples.

Thanks for the reply Pete. I am certain that it must have had incorrect timing at last cambelt change, as the difference in pickup and performance is amazing.
Drives like a totally different vehicle.
Delighted I have to say.
Cheers.

@ruston mmm seems to be the way to do it but... its one of those things that would linger in the back of my mind "did i do it right?" the 407 has a gauge on the tentioner with an arrow
I have one for a 407 so when my belt arrives ill go round the tentioner with a caliper to see if they match and id rather use that if i can
(that would 100% fit a 2007+ expert)
