Cold tonight, don't want to start on veg oil. Temporary twin tank time

Looks like it's dipping below 5C tonight. My rule for starting on 100% veg is not below 10C, so I had to cave and put some diesel in.

Didn't want to commit to mixing a full tank, so I decided to bodge a temporary twin tank in to get diesel in the lines, filter, pump, injectors etc.

Unplugged the fuel line coming from the tank underneath and put it in a bottle of newly acquired 3 litres of diesel

Ran it for 7 minutes till the diesel got down to the end of the pipe

That should do me for the morning. It's made me want to fit something more permanent under there.

Looks a tad rusty under there.  Hammerite?  Or is that another job on the long list of jobs?

As for the problem, you could route that pipe up into the van and put a one way screw valve on the end of it, like a bleed valve for the brake system.  Then plug the other side of the valve into a modified 5L fuel can, in the same way you would do it for a diesel heater.  For most of the year you could omit plugging the can in, but when it gets cold you can put the can back in and connect to the main tank.

Or you could pour 5L of diesel into the fuel tank from the 5L can.  wink

As easy or as complicated as you want it to be. big_smile

You think that's bad

Ask him about his rear axle.

Hey my rear axle is rust-free now!

But, yea I was looking around that area thinking "hey it looks pretty clean here". The years of life on the Scottish coast have not been kind to this van  roll
