Hi there, my dispatch 1.9d on a 2005 isn't running above 60° and the fan never kicks in. Had it in for MOT and it burst the radiator on the ramps and was told the fan wasn't working. Replaced the radiator and checked power to the fan and it spins. Thing is the gauge never rises above 60 no matter what driving conditions I'm in . If I unplug the temp sensor the gauge goes up and the fan kicks in. This is the 3rd temp sensor I've had in to make sure they havnt been faulty. Any ideas why it's running like this? Also thermostat has been replaced aswell as coolant. Thanks chris

Are you absolutely sure about the thermostat being the correct one?
How about trying it without a thermostat. Sounds like the hot water isn't reaching the temp sensor.

Sounds to me like the thermostat is stuck open, meaning water always flows into the radiator, keeping it cool.
I would guess that unplugging the thermostat just means the resistor isn't doing its thing and the clocks read that as "temp must be high"
Unless it's the dash...

Cant see the radiator bursting if to cool. My money is on a some form of blockage or part blockage

Thats what I'm puzzled with. It can't be cool stood in traffic ticking over and no fan kicking in but the gauge says it is. I've plugged scanner tool in to check gauge isn't faulty and it's reading the same temp as the dash.

Got the thermostat from euro car parts. They had two variations so I just got them both to make sure I had the right one as I didn't know exactly which was in the van. It never used to do this then one day just started to run cool. Replaced thermostat with the same as the one that came out.

You could have piles of rust running around if its never been flushed. This dirty old crap could be blocking waterways in the head what would be a disaster. Someone could have mixed red and blue antifreeze what is a no no. I have seen rusty water cover the temperature sensor in the past t a state where they give false readings. Me i would take radiator hoses off and fully flush the whole system and dont stop till you see clean water coming out. It is safe to run without a thermostat just your cab may not be very hot. There is the possibility you have a duff thermostat. Do the boiling water test in a cup test to confirm. Other option if bin the heat controlled fan and rewire it to either have a switch in the cab and remember to turn on/off according to temp gauge or feed it to an ignition wire and have it on constant.

Thanks for the info ill flush the system this weekend and see what she's like. I did think to wire a switch I for the fan but then thought we'll indont know when the things running hot as its always on 60 when It warms up? ill test the new thermostat aswell and make sure it's not a dud. Thanks for the help

TBH it sounds like gasket had perished and once warm(hot) doesn't blow in to the cooling circuit...?♂️

Has this model got two temp sensors ? my 01 plate has two one for clocks and one for something else guessing fan relay switch?!?. As my dash guage went faulty read cold constantly but the fan would kick in when hot. Changed one sensor and dash guage worked again.
