level work top

Hi All,
Just starting on my kitchen unit and bed build
I read somewhere on here regarding the dispatch has a natural slope from back to front when seating on level ground, i understand i wont be parking on level ground most of the time but am i right in thinking that when i build the furniture i should take the natural slope into consideration so i start with something level rather than just measuring from the floor the same for front and back?
Hope that makes sense, what have others done? any advise please
All the best Danny smile

Re: level work top

Van floor here. and a pair of levelling ramps but even then it would have to be really uneven ground for me to use them.

Re: level work top

My van was already converted when we got it..............
Apart from I'm sure rear ride height has dropped with what sh** we've put in or done .............
As our kitchen/work space is not massive....................
Also it looks to be same height all the way .....................
I'd measure same height from floor as Casper says ................

You could use a spirit level and then put a bed in your holiday stuff and yourself in the back and render all levelness academic ..............

Re: level work top

I generally find that the ground usually slopes one way or another, so I just pick the direction that levels up the van. But to be honest, as long as my head is higher than my feet when sleeping, a bit of a slope is not an issue. I do carry chocks but rarely use them, and often see motorhomers spending a lot of time increasing the height by slightest amount, to get is exactly right.
So as others have said build level to the floor. The other thing to note, is that the interior height is lower at the back.

Re: level work top

I built mine flat relative to the van floor, which means it would follow the slope relative to gravity. But front-to-back I generally have a varied slope anyway.

I keep my trusty levelling ramps handy  smile

Re: level work top

I aren't too bothered by a slope myself but my fridge is very fussy.
Just an inch or so out back to front and it struggles.  Any further and it actually heats up!

edit... even more fussy is Ken.  Can be amusing watching the performance.  (but not so much in the early hours of the morning!)

Re: level work top

Hey I've been working on being less fussy! Sometimes I'm happy with it having a 1 degree left-to-right slope now!

Re: level work top

I made a wooden rock n roll bed for when i had my Expert. Part built we had to go to Manchester for a wedding but there was no spare rooms going at the wife's mothers. We decided to use the sleeping bags and just kip in the van on her drive. Got there fine and parked up what was a slight slope forward what was no great deal but... The bloody nylon bags on a ply bed meant we kept sliding forward during the night. Must have got woke up every two hours or so when our legs were curling up on the back of the front seats. Ordered levelling ramps when i got home.   big_smile
