Hi, everyone
I've not posted for a little while.
I was on my way home from work in the van when I started to hear a metallic scraping noise. At first I thought it was the car behind!
I pulled over down a lane, got out and had a cursory check - nothing.
Drove the last mile or two home, no more noise.
Took her out for a spin today - no noises.
Whipped the wheels off and had a check - nothing amiss.
Went for another spin, nothing.
I'm baffled!!

I like to pretend I'm going insane and must've misheard and forget all about it. Nothing could go wrong
Could it have been your rear drum brakes for some reason? I've had mine sound very scrapey until the surface rust has worn off

Something stuck in between the brake pads and discs on the front?
Wheel bearing?

I actually took the drums off, they're low ish but not on the metal yet. Might replace them in the spring.

Only taking on the prognosis and not looking at the car I actually bought discs and pads many moons ago for my then missus car. As It was thought the grinding noise was brake pads down to metal on her car it turned out to be a piece of gravel off the drive had found its way into and lodged in the disc area. Needless to say the discs and pads went on the shelf for the next year or so as there was plenty meat on her brakes ..................

That has happened to me a few times. Fast ish reverse and hard breaking seems to dislodge them easy enough.

hmm had a rear coil spring snap and do this once on another vehicle.. just rubbed a bit on the inside of the wheel rim. then over another bump and it stopped. took 5 mins to replace the coil spring (undo dampeners and jack up on a tow bar till coil springs fell out). car is still going about to this day.

Notice: I have the tendency to void warranties, blow fuses, cause fires, and other fun stuff.
Words of wisdom: Internally rust proof the sills and subframe! both skins!!. There's always user serviceable parts inside. "Oh that shouldn't have happened".

I've taken her out for a couple of short journeys, no strange noises.
Goodness knows what it is/was

Were you listening to Kraftwerk at the time. They recorded some strange stuff in the early days

So that set me off listening to the first 3 albums again this morning.
Anyway I once experienced a horrible load creaking noise from the front after driving down the long dirt road to campsite Paradiso Karlovy Vary, Czechia.
It sounded so bad that I thought the front suspension was ready to fall off. So I got it towed to the local garage, where they said that they could not fnd anything wrong. Nice people did not charge anything for thier time.
Never came back again, so I guess it was a bit of gravel somewhere it shold not have been and putting the van up on the ramps somehow dislodged it.

Karlovy Vary, Czechia.
IIRC. It's a spa town with numerous hot springs and apparently as having a continual increase of Russian companies spending money which is probably why such a lot of exiled Russian Mafia allegedly are living there ....................
A little anorak info IIRC I've collected on my travels .............

Met an interesting character at the campsite. He was German, and his family lived nearby, until they were ousted, without compensation, by the Chech government after the war. A bit sad, since the family had been there for a long time and their only crime was to speak German.

Another place with hot springs added to my wishlist.
Current favourite is Ourense in Galicia, for general mooching around, getting pissed and sitting in the many therms that litter the city. Generally I do it when i'm trekking and use it as a stopover/chillout day, but haven't had a chance for the last couple of years due to other factors.

Commander Lionel 'Buster' Crabbe was allegedly kept at a sanatorium in Karlovy Vary after he was snatched from Poole harbour. The documents relating to this will probably never be released.

Been a fan of the genre since the 70's, so yes top stuff.
Actually at the moment I'm working my way through https://www.amazon.co.uk/Krautrock-Musi … B000FJH4W8, all 5 sets of 6 cds.
Ok they be streching the boundarys a bit, but it's a good snapshot of a very healthy scene, that we just got a gimpse off at the time.

The Name "Buster Crabbe" Rings a bell with me................
"IIRC" He was something of a legend type figure in the Royal Navy ............
I'm sure I read something about him in Spycatcher [A book that my Aunt brought me from the U.S. along with a ZZ TOP key ring ... many many years ago 1987 ?] and he apparently disappeared [presumed drowned] when working for MI6 on a diving job around a soviet boat but never found......................................
