Re: Found a nice spot up the North East coast

The older of us on here have seen it before and should know better ..........
We all should.............

We've all had tough times ......
For me and I laugh now when I was wondering how I was ever going to afford to buy perol for a car if I was worrying about affording 50p a gallon in the moped.............

I saw everyone panic and sell their big cars (1.8 or 2.0L yikes ) and for the life of me buy a 2.2 or larger a year or so later...........
I can also remember being in an Arnold clark showroom in Glasgow and they clould not for the life of them sell a second hand probably about 3 or 4 yrs old primrose yellow V12 jag E-type for £2995 ..........
Try buying one that good today for that........

I've had to pull a few stunts like only put enough fuel in to get to our bunkering......
Diesel then a ltr would cost me 36p {Saving about 4 or 5p on pump prices}and I'd get 2 weeks credit at end of month on bunker card if IIRC payed 2p more a ltr on other card I could get monthly terms ...........
It seems laughable but at an average of 6.2 mpg in the little fleet I had it could cost me easily upwards of £1000 extra a month For that 2p a ltr.........
{It was harder to get out of that credit rut than factoring invoices}

Sh** 6 months road tax was £1750 per vehicle for 2 of them I had 4 then all were 4x2 and none on air all steel (it was to do with number of axles and weights) I could have taxed for less but it resticted work available to me and that was when Storman Norman was in Kuwait..........
I can't remember what year (Early90's) I was given the option if I had total of 4 axles and classed as on air (meant all but steer) I could increase the plate weight to 35 tonnes gross from 32T but road tax would increase to £5000 per year.............(No artic I had was on air some hired trailers did have airbags)

[Think it was 89 my first year i earned £80,000 and didn't have two halfpennies to rub together].............
Theirs nothing like taking and spending other peoples money if your a Government ............
It's true the title having a JOB means just over broke

At one point we'd draw off Diesel leaving only enough fuel in truck to get off the boat and fill up.........
(I remember putting 45ltrs Diesel (or gasoil at pump prices) in the car in Belgium and was IIRC £13 cheaper then) ........
One guy down south offered me his service .......All he did over the weekend was ship out units and back to fill them up in calais
Worth the effort for a 700 ltr capacity on truck

lately I've seen the panic to sell "Dirty Diesels" after all of us being encouraged to buy diesels..........
I don't have anything (Diesel) young enough to lose a fortune on now anyway.....

It must have been similar phasing out horses ............
Look at the millions spent on them now..........

Really we've got NO Control and are dragged along with the flow...........
{Maybe we do live in the Matrix}
It's easy to look back but into the future these experts might as well try pin the tail on the donkey as to what will really happen.........

I don't blame people for feeling restricted caged {I do to}...........
But the whole world if it's not trying to put one over on you it seems to have gone mad.......
Including some rules too .............

Sorry kenbw2 for a  long winded rant

Re: Found a nice spot up the North East coast

Has anyone tried Clee Hill in Shropshire?  I was up there on my bike a couple of years back, because I spotted the golfball(s) and aerials and knew it was probably an air traffic place, which meant a good view for some pictures.  It was indeed some good views and pretty desolate, maybe too desolate for those that don't like to be so far off the beaten track.  On a side note it may possibly be a spot for nefarious activities, so research if you are thinking about it.

Apparently the highest ground east of the Urals.

I think the "air traffic" those golf balls were interested in may have been ballistic.  Even local domestic radios sometimes receive Radio Moscow and there used to be a pub up there called The Kremlin due to soviet radio occasionally picked up by it's juke box.

Had a short visit to the area many years ago but don't remember too much apart from the views, the pub and some interesting old quarries and mines.  The terraced railway track bed and viaduct supports above the car park look familiar.
