I posted on this back in 2016 but circumstances prevented me from working on adding a leisure battery to my 2014 Combi.
At the rear of the van, on the nearside, is a removable panel that we use for storage but has what would appear to be pre-trailer wiring?
The cables are 'plugged' into a frame but this appears to be a store to stop the cables flapping around - most of the cables are not actually connected to anything.
Is this something that can, if this is what this is, could be used to tap into say for a leisure battery charging system?
Pics attached - maybe these will help someone explain what this is?

As you say, I think that this is all for towbar wiring ie to sell the expensive custom cable.
I just took off all the plastics, and tucked the cables away, before fitting the storage units.
As it happened the van has a towbar fitted, but whoever fitted it used a multiway relay fed from the rear indicators etc. Fair enough but they used 3 core electrical cable to connect it all up, which annoys me to no end.
Anyway I doubt if there is anything useful there.

Yep, trailer wiring.
A couple of years ago i bought a peugeot trailer unit on ebay. New with relay unit, connectors and wiring. It was for a slightly newer car than our Pug 308, so it physically fitted and plugged in, but only made the car brake lights come on all the time, whcih was odd. It sat in the garage on the shelf for a while until we acquired a proace for camper conversion. The trailer unit plugged right in to the connectors in your picture with a 50A fuse in the spare holder by the battery to feed the big cable that is already pre-wired, and turned on with Diagbox just fine. It works a treat, and runs both sockets, so outputs both permenant and switched live feeds.
Only downside is that the 7 pin lights socket has a small microswitch in to detect trailer connectoin. I haven't investigated how much works without a trailer plug connected.
So - if you can find a trailer kit for a 308 T9, it will plug right in !

I've a feeling theres also a connector for the reversing sensor ECU somewhere there too ?
