Dumfries and Galloway

Few of you guys love the area. I am yet to properly explore it so looking to do a bit of that come the spring. I like the idea of pub stop overs and this place came up when searching

https://www.wanlockheadinn.co.uk/about-us/

Anyone been, worth the visit, other things to see in the area but not to much walking as the wife had buggered hips

Cheers

Re: Dumfries and Galloway

My favourite place to escape to is Loch Doon. There's a cafe at the top near the dam, and a nice drive along the lkae. Caravan site if that's your thing.

If you're feeling brave there's a long gravel "Forest Drive" from the south which takes you west back onto normal roads again

Re: Dumfries and Galloway

Can't help with pub stopovers, (exept closed down ones wink)

The Harbour at Blantyre is only a short stagger from the pub.  Wigtown's harbour not so close.  Interesting place though.  It was where we used to send our "undesirables" off to Botany Bay from.  (Of course we wouldn't do anything remotely similar in our more civilised and enlightened era!)

Glen Trool has another forest drive down to Bruce's Stone worth a look and good if you want a quiet night or two.  Or a great spot if you wish to ambush any one.

I preffer the inland areas as the A7 tends to bring all the trafic along the coast.  Far more park ups too.

Loch Doon looks nice and ideal for £15 a night. After doing a pub stop over with no shitter or shower i was thinking a camp site but............ That bloody one has none big_smile Wife pointed out we just not long did two nights without a shower in the north east then Selkirk plus in Holland at the bike Rally we do almost three nights. Yip we are mingers lol Café looks nice, Roundhouse i presume. Aye  think we will give it a look over thanks

Blantyre is up in Lanark. To close to the step son who cant make a cup o tea so sod that. Interestingly that road that runs along the north of Loch Trool has a few interesting view points. Wigtown is where the mother inlaw lived with husband number 5. I shit you not. 5  lol She actually went for a tummy tuck about 4 years go. I did say to her i blame all the wedding cake. That went over her head but then, she is a Manc.

Cheers for that. Will look into all this more later. I was hoping to have my bus stripped out by now for a refit and back out for spring but work dont seem to be dying back any time soon so fingers crossed i get this done for spring so i can explore the area. Think my diesel heater will be first thing to install big_smile

Sorry to read about your debilitating condition. Were you not talking about a trap to Spain at the start of the year. Is that likely to still happen?

It sucks big time getting older. I am only just 59 but things are already starting to break or just not work as they should. Worst thing i ever did was quit smoking. I was healthy when i smoked. Nice layer of tar in my lungs keeping all the nasty shit out. Had covid a couple of month back, be my tar would have booted that into touch also tongue

Re: Dumfries and Galloway

well they say old age doesn't come on it's own and it definitely didn't here .........
Yes I was planning a trip either september / october past or eary next year but that has taken a back seat at mo ...............
As you know my partner has Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma  and me with my condition and lots of hospital appointments has kyboshed a lot of things .............................
They also discovered that my partner has a Stomach ulcer which is also not clever ..................................
I'm guessing stress as it was not showing on last set of tests ...................................
We have not really used van this year more than half dozen nights as we've had no real motovation to ... The first night we couldn't get to sleep ... which was strang ... So we went back to her place in middle of night .............
The  last time was after we went to Ayr for a fish supper and then afterwards again stopped about 100 miles from home .................... what a pantomime it turned out to be........ A full new bottle of gas but no burners worked for breakfast or coffee so we ended upgetting coffee and something to eat out a burger bar............

Got New regulator and gas pipe for Van... Got old regulator out but still to finish and get gas flowing in Van and that was a few months ago now ..................
I might now be in my mid sixtes but I don't feel that old
