Rear Suspension bushing (terrible vid)

Hello again,
Long time coming, but only today managed to get to the right garage (with moving front plates) to see what was making awful clanking noise, that wasn't spotted at the time of MOT big_smile
you can certainly have a laugh at my video skills here
https://streamable.com/si7mct

thus is stemming from @JohnDragonMan post

I hope this helps many people.

I dont know if anyone is aware but FiatForum.com host a parts search with exploded diagrams called ePER.
though its only for Fiat, you can take the part number and search for it on ebay, then Ebay will give you other part numbers of the same item that you can then search.

>>Here is a link to this wonderful parts catalogue<<

i hope that this helps a great many keep our beloved vehicles on the roads for many years to come.

It bleepin does! Thank you!

although my woes perhaps indicating t be part 8

what are your thoughts on it? ops

yes i would say its part 8. it should be pretty easy to get.. i got mine from ebay, not the most easy things to replace. i advise also replacing the rear brake flex hoses at the same time. they will be as old as the van and they will be tugged on a little when you do the bushes.

best eay to do the bushes is to use a drill and drill through the rubber, then use a hacksaw thredded through the hole so you can cut away at the outer "race" or skin of the bush. when you have made a nice sized cut in it, a hammer and chisel should get the bush out.putting the new one in..  use a very large socket abd hefty flat washer with a bolt and "wind" it back in so its true.

experience is a wonderful thing. it enables you to recognise a mistake milliseconds before you make it again.

Started to look for the bushes (bushings) and everything talked about earlier got me slightly lost as it to what it really is, as amount of a play sideways was gianormous...

Q-Drive Axle Mounting (Rear or Rear Axle Left or Right) , but the part number, that I'm slightly concerned to be using of a Fiat brother fitment one like
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234645628468 or pair https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/224892528880
as evil'Bay say

This item doesn't fit this Citroën Dispatch 2004 Diesel Van 1.9 D 70 FWD -- BS_,BT_,BY_,BZ_ 1868cc 51KW 69HP WJY (DW8B);WJZ (DW8).

Even the image corresponds to the same part on different diagrams

So, at the end of a day I don't want to get it, take it to the garage to learn it's either wrong size or there would be something else.

Re: Rear Suspension bushing (terrible vid)

Good job ended up visiting a dealer, turns out for my particular model there were 2 types of bushings (bushes) (part n.: 515261 )and the type that "fitted" in accordance of ebay- was wrong. ANW stealer was going to order it and get it for me in few days for a "measly" £42.00 each.... went to EuroCP- £22 for the pair! BUT neither had bolt (+nut) for it.
Had to get over to nearest FIAT (Vauhxal) dealer with a hope to have it in stock- nope! so ordered x2 sets at £19.

Hopefully I'll have x2 sets of bushings and bolts (+nuts) on hand to take it to mechanic on Friday, let him decide if to do both or just one.
(Wish I wouldn't be such wolly, could do it own self) ops

Re: Rear Suspension bushing (terrible vid)

Thanks for all the advice,

Forgotten to post back the jobbie that was done by a monkey wrenches local to me.

No joke two of them where hammering with sledge hammers and cold chisels for an hour in turns to get it out and where using special threaded bushing kit with extensions to get a new one in.

In short unless you are well clued up and we'll geared up it absolutely is pig of a job... Hence I didn't even try to do it own self (or that is my excuse) ;P and I wasn't going to start teaching them how to do it easier ways (or to read advice here) as they seem to have been enjoying it.

Only just listened to the noise.  Sounded like a steam engine!  :0

Glad it's fixed.  How much?

That's the noise of air operated suspension destructor (front), but it also is moving the rear enough to be sure what's what, as by the sound off whilst driving- I was guessing if it wasn't something higher up.

Still have one new bolt and bushing as a "spare" now, hope to not need to get to it done ever again, however as for an advice for anyone (what I've collectively had):
1 get a new bolt, as once all the rust and slamming they are truly pigs to get out
2 indeed cutting the bushing inner (and bolt (it is "wider" than outer enough) with either reciprocating saw or angle grinder would save a lot of time, instead trying to get it out "as"
3 indeed the method (I think by John) to drill out good portion of rubber, getting a hack-saw blade trough and making a cut to "fold in" outer metal by hammering  a screwdriver to release tension would've saved few pies worth of calories. They had it on a ramp and x2 engine stands... still nearly had whole axle breaking as it was only held on one side...

Moneys ££££ it was bit of a unexpected and £150 cash expense, I could (can't) even put through expenses... Kinda steep, but South East (Farnham) where it was done is infamous for. The end of a sticks round here is bit of nightmare to get any reasonably priced and capable mechanics, hence I call them monkey wrenches, although own-self too inept and/or worried to try to do.

Re: Rear Suspension bushing (terrible vid)

i feel kinda bad.. or maybe good now when i say that i changed mine with nothing but jack stands, a hammer, a hacksaw, and socket set on my drive!

these bushes are so under looked. these shake testing rigs do not pick them up with the whole of the vans weight being on them.

That sounds about right. Well done!

Worked like a dream in my case (half loaded van) and in general you wouldn't wont van to be taken to suspension diagnostics fully loaded ;P
It's bit of a luck to find such garage, only one I've found (or knew) out of gazzilions of them around, and yes, as you can possibly see in a video pointed in to what was wrong.

Thanks for the tips John, as now, I think, "push come to shove" I might get myself axle stands and for the other side will have to do it myself...
