Hi all I'm new at this but I hope you can help or advise me on what's gone wrong with my 2004 dispatch 2.0 hdi van.
I took the instrument clocks out to replace two bulbs on the mileage screen I moved a few bulbs about which was working to the mileage screen now when I turn on the the ignition the stop warning light flashes all the time have I done something wrong! The van is running perfectly no issues with it I just don't know if I done something wrong thanks

Was that a bulb you mucked about with? I say you just have not put the wire connector back properly or you got dist in it.
Is stop not the brake. Could it be a coincidence and your front pads are wearing down?

Right. The handbook says the stop should come on simultaneously with another waning light. If you inst then i say you have a short so back track what you have changed.

Hi thank you for your replies '
, I know I have to change front pads soon as I get a slight binding when breaking hard, but I've had that for a couple of weeks on the left hand front wheel, it could be that, and I've topped up on the brake fluid! The light still flashes, it's couinserdance that I changed the bulbs around in the clocks that now the the stop light flashes! I will have a back track tomorrow and fit new bulbs I'll let you know how it goes. Thank you again

Yea that is what makes me think you have not put something back or in place properly. Just double check and clean if need be. Some vans have sensors in the pads. As the pads wear down the sensor touches the disk bringing the light on but i would have thought you would get the brake light also if this was the case and if you have the sensor on your van. From what i understand not all models have this.
Anyway, good luck

I've been lurking here for a week and this is a very old thread to post my first comment but in case anyone else has this problem, the solution for me was to simply replace a bulb. I can't be 100% sure which one caused it as I had a few new failures when disturbing the old bulbs to replace some already blown ones, but I'm reasonably sure it was the engine management bulb blowing that caused my dash to start flashing STOP with no other warning. Once all the the instrument bulbs were back in, the STOP stayed off.
I'll also add, this site has been an excellent resource for helping me give a little love to a van that had a very hard life with its previous owners.

Funnily enough I finally, after two years, found the cause of my flashing STOP light.
Changed the brake pads and found the wires from the old pads were, well, not connected (or in existence).
Plugged the new ones in and when I started it last night, no flashing STOP light. Also the ABS has started to work correctly. Before it would judder when braking. Now it doesn't. I did clean and wire brush the calipers, then copper greased everything, before winding the pistons in, but they need more work and new discs, but I don't have the tools to pop the hub nut, nor a big enough torque wrench to put them back. Might let a proper mechanic do them.

You don't need to pop the hub nut to change the discs, if that helps

Now you have me intrigued. I looked all over for bolts to remove to get the disc off. Do you have to completely remove the caliper? Was a major bugger to get the old pads off and the whole caliper is rusted every which way. I was going to leave it until summer and then remove both of them and clean them up.
Anyway i couldn't find anything on YT (but the search wasn't thorough) on how to remove a disc from a mk2. Lots of generic, but each vehicle is different. My old Punto you had to pop the wheel nut to get the disc off. This one looked similar.
So how do you do it? I have two new discs and would love to install them.
TIA.

Yea, caliper off, and that funky sticky out thing in between the wheel nut holes and off it comes. Maybe with a bit of persuasion
