Steel wheels

Hello everyone,
I’m looking for some steel wheels for a expert 2.0 HDI with 15 inch rims.
Two would be perfect and in reasonable condition…, as I’m trying to eliminate a slow speed wobble and believe it to be a distorted wheel.
I’m located in Leicestershire and can collect if not to far away…

Have a look in the back of the garage and behind the shed….:)

Re: Steel wheels

Ah not a Rolling Stones album post then  tongue

Have you took the spare off and swapped it with each corner? It would be rubbish to buy wheels only to find out you have a Buggered tyre or a weight missing on a drive shaft. Also would a low speed wabble not just be detectable up the steering making me think the issue is front wheel related. If correct try swapping both front to back and see if it goes away or characteristics change.

Re: Steel wheels

Hi Casper,

Thanks for the reply…

Recently had both front wishbones changed and the van drives about better apart from this wobble up to 30mph.

My mechanic has done similar to what you suggest and found that at least one rim wouldn’t go on the front axle as the wheel bolts fould up and not allowing the wheel to turn.
At the same time Tyres were swapped and new fitted due to being worn out.
He believes that it’s the rear wheels causing the wobble but it does feel like it’s at the front…
He thinks the rim has been distorted by over use of a air gun to over tighten the bolts.
Balancing has been done, discs checked etc and this seems like the next logical step to put my new tyres on another rim or two.
Hence I was gonna get a pair

Re: Steel wheels

Does seem an odd one. Only other thing i can think off is a tyre on squint? Look to make sure the rim line is even all the way round the wheel. See line under tyre size...

Rattle gun distorting the wheel?? Jury is out on that one as surly it would never properly be balanced or the balance machine would tell the correct weights to compensate. however this is a reason to test the spare on each corner as it may pin point what wheel out/warped.

Re: Steel wheels

Great ideas and points made….

Had left it all to the mechanic, but may have to crawl underneath myself…:)

The main oddity seems to be the rim won’t go on the front axle and it’s the original bolts…?

Hi ya Casper,

Just a quick update on my posting on a wobble thought to be rear suspension etc…?

I found that a rear tyre had gone out of shape…!, so my trusty old van is now driving about like a new un…

Many thanks for your helpful advice…, which is what lead me to check the basics first..

Not only tight, but also knowledgeable.

Glad you stuck around despite downgrading the van.

Its hard having all that extra space you know. I am in the middle of a refit and struggling to find a location for the diesel heater. On the bright side i did put my drill down then spend the next 10 minutes looking for it again lol

It really is driving me mad. Just now i am working my way up the floor, Bubble foil then thin ply but rather than buy a sheet of ply i am doing it with of cuts as i go. When i cut the bubble foil and put the scissors or Stanley knife down next is screw the bit ply down. Do you think i can find the bloody scissors/Stanley again mad

Re: Steel wheels

That's what tool belts are for (or pockets if you have them).  Just don't put an unsheathed stanley knife in your pocket. wink  I use the safety ones that auto retract when not in use, so it's not an issue.
