Hi all. I've recently taken off my EGR /cooler to replace the gasket thinking it was leaking gases into the cooling system, but it might actually be an issue I created myself last year when I took the EGR for inspection. It's very possible I've not correctly bled the system as the alternative is the EGR is kaput or the head gasket is gone.
So, can I bleed the system without the Charge cylinder? I've not manged to so far. I've bled it as best I can. When it warms up the expansion bottle fills up.......then eventually the safety valve releases the pressure.
I think it's the head?

or a blockage as in thermostat or water pump
Try Rad-Cleaner from ECP's or couple, it'll take you half a day to find how to replace water (fill-up, warm up engine, get long nosed pliers, disconnect the pipe right on a cylinder, (3 ft bellow expansion tank)) cool it down; fill up with water, top up with rad-flush warm up and drain again) then pour fresh collant (blue) and see what's what.
as it comes to ERG- I can not fathom any relevance to what you suspect, which, still can be the gasket, but those go due to the age or running hot or they go if not enough coolant in a water during winter months.
