Can anyone tell me where the EGR valve is on this engine? The engine warning light is on and the breakdown guy has said the EGR valve needs cleaning. Are those spray cleaners any good? Currently on a campsite in Kent.

Not sure how helpful it is, but it's number 3 on this diagram:

i have a 2005 Enterprise HDI, the EGR valve is a bit of a pain to get to. however i can suggest a few things.
if the van has gone reallllly slow i suggest unplugging the mass air flow sensor. its just on the pipe coming out of the air filter housing. i managed to buy my van really cheap because it had a serious loss of engine power which ended up only being the mass air flow sensor failing. while driving it home from buying it, i pulled over and unplugged the mass air flow sensor then stated driving it again and wow back to full power! these engines run perfectly fine without the sensor plugged in (without most sensors plugged in actually) as it will just start relying on the boost pressure sensor to guess its air intake volume. you just have to live with the engine management light till you get a replacement. thankfully they are really cheap. (note that an engine management light is NOT an Mot failure on diesel vehicles older than 2008)
the EGR on these engines can be disabled with no negative effects. the ECU is not clever enough to detect the EGR being bypassed.
to cease the egr's activation, all you have to do is pull off one small pipe and attach it to a bit of excess thread on a bolt.
under the wiper motor is a solenoid with 2 small pipes. pull off the pipe from the back of the solenoid and put it on the bolt. the EGR will no longer actuate.
heres a handy photo of what i mean. (note the yellow arrows on the left side of the photo)
the other solenoid to the right is the turbo waste gate actuator solenoid. its advisable to not disable that as you may over boots the engine.
from experience those spray cleaners do not really do much. other than make your engine rev up as you have to spray it in while its running. trouble is, that much air is already flowing through the intake system it just dilutes the spray to nothing. i hate to say it but the best stuff i have used is petrol on a drip feed directly into the air intake if you do not want to have the hassle of taking the intake manifold off. just make sure you feed the pipe down past the mass air flow sensor. the petrol will damage the hot strip of metal the sensor uses to measure air volume if it comes into contact with it while the ignition is on. (you can clean MAF sensors with petrol but ive always found them to have failed)
an egr can also be blanked however you will have a bit of faf to try to install the blanking plate. you need to remove the air filter housing then kinda get to the back right of the block via the top of the gear box. youll find the EGR pipe going into the intake manifold and you just sandwich the plate in-between. there just 2x 10mm bolts if i remember right. not that i condone such acts. ahem.
hope this helps!

Notice: I have the tendency to void warranties, blow fuses, cause fires, and other fun stuff.
Words of wisdom: Internally rust proof the sills and subframe! both skins!!. There's always user serviceable parts inside. "Oh that shouldn't have happened".
