Alloy Wheels

Hi all,

Just put some 807 alloy wheels on my 2003 expert. They're 215/60/16, they're let's say a snug fit on the rear at least ?. Not fitted the front yet as rain stopped play!

Wondering how big a wheel tyre combo everyone else has?

That looks close. If the front is that close then think about suspension travel while straight and turning as you may be rubbing. If you are think about low profile or 14" 306 alloys. How is your nuts? tongue Think they differ from alloy to steel ones so you may also need to change them.

Hi Casper, it is a little close on the rear not test drove it yet but will probably change the tyre down to a 45 profile.
The nuts I'd got fitted fine, I was thinking I'd need to change them but luckily not. Will test fit the front today if the weather stays dry long enough ?

I remember when i got my last 306 the lad i bought it from had crap alloys that i got rod off and stuck the steel wheels back on. He just used the steel bolts what only went into the hub about 1.5cm. I ordered a set for alloys and the difference was the head. The bottom of the head where it meets the threaded part was tapered on the steel and flat on the alloy studs. If yours are tapered watch when tightening them up as i noticed on mine they would shave some alloy away every time i put one in.

Thanks for the advice, i'll double check when go back out and put the front wheels on.

I did look at some new studs on ebay and they where of the flat type, maybe have to get get a full set of them.

Google what the 807 ones look like just to be sure.

Well got the fronts on to now, see the picture.

Fit perfectly, a bit more room than the rears so think will change to a lower profile in the near future. Have been out on a test run and there's been no rubbing as of yet. The van is nearly fully laden as I use it for work, fitted out with custom racking and tools etc. so that probably doesn't help with the rear clearances. With this in mind I was thinking of putting some spring assistors in??

Those alloys don't look half bad on the van

As Casper says make sure wheel studs are correct for Alloy fitment ..... Quite possibly studs off the 807 would fit your hub
As for wheel/tyre size use a tyre size calculator ...... I would say most likely a.... 205/55/16... or a.... 225/50/16..... are the nearest to standard but
Put in original wheel & tyre fitment and look for as close as possible alternative to keep speedometer/gearing within percentage

Vaz212: Thanks for the links, as you suggest the 215/50/16 would probably be the closet match to the original setup, but having looked into tyre sizes there isn't many options for the 215/50/16 so it would have to be the 55 or even 45's.

Localfella: The more I see them the more I like them, and think the van looks better with the arches filled. The 14 inch rims just don't do the van justice. Yeah quite close to you down in Congleton. What are you driving?

Recently got myself a Silver 55 plate Scudo van, It has a few battle scares but has only done 67500 miles. I bought it with the intention of turning it into a "Tin tent".... it'll only be used as a second vehicle so the mileage should be kept down still. I was in Congy a few days ago getting some bits for the conversion. smile

Hi Localfella, your van sounds good especially the mileage. Must admit mine had a few battle scars when I first got it to, namely the front bumper which was split and the built in fog lights were broken, you wouldn't believe what peugeot dealer wanted for a new bumper and fog lights!

Had to do a paint touch up over the rear arch on the passage side and go over all the paint work with some maguire's stuff to bring the shine back. I've managed to source a replacement front bumper from a 806 but now need to repaint it.

What products were you sourcing from the great Congo?

Your new bumper Anchor. Is it rough like the standard black ones? I got a tin of Aldi Black indoor/outdoor metal paint i used on mine and they come up a treat. This is the day after i painted them

And about three month later

I dare say Hammerite would look just as nice but more expensive.

I won myself a new porta potti off an Ebay seller down on Holmes Chapel rd...Was on my way to leek (no pun intended) to visit friends so didn't even have to go out of my way...

I've replaced a couple of things on the van.... it had a cracked headlight and the centre molding on the front bumper was scuffed. The rear bumper was in a mess as the old boy before me had tried to park it on a stump !! The van runs fine although currently SORN whilst i convert it to a tin tent camper. Dropped on a bargain from Stoke, i got a pair a rear glazed doors for 99p each yikes , yes 1.98 for a pair of doors...

Sadly not, they are white (at the moment) but my best man can spray them at mates rates wink at that price they are still a bargain..
If i need them sooner i have an air nibbler so could modify the ones already on the van and just fit the glass in, on the lookout for a side window now !

I started to cut m window holes out with an angle grinder. Bloody crap as yo dont have as much control but a jig saw with metal blade was like hot knife in butter. It went through the area with the support bar easy as well. I put my back doors on ebay with no just so just dumped them in a layby. big_smile Only joking, took them to the local scrap yard as he has a dumping area.

Hi Casper: The replacement front bumper is a mixture of colour coded on the top half and the rough plastic on the bottom half, as you might be able to see from the picture below. When I get round to it I'm probably going to do the top half in colour code to the van, and use the same stuff I used on the rear, which is Halfords bumper paint, on the bottom section.

Localfella: That's a nice looking van, and what a bargain on those rear doors! As for side windows, these are the ones I'd go for:

Cost £90 plus fitting etc, but they do look good!

One thing I'm having trouble finding is the front grille, as one side of mine is broken, which measn the section under the headlight doesn't sit flush.

Here are the ones from the link you sent on mine (plus Alfa Romeo 147 alloys).

Amazing how much brighter and airy the rear now feels with them.

Aye paint it white. Being a white van it stands out more that the front bumper is higher than the back. Hammerite smooth should be close and will handle stone chip.

Hi Casper: I'll look into the Hammerite smooth. For the other bits I've painted I've used Peugeot Bianca white from good old Halfords and them a clear lacquer which have turned otut OK. Like you say the hammerite will probably provide some protection from stone chips.

Did you notice on the web site you can change it to fitted also? Takes the price up to £150 a side but ask as you may get a discount for two. If i was keeping this van long term i would be doing that myself as they do look smart.
