In France at present...........

..........................and there are tons of our MK1 shape vans - early examples and later facelifts. Don't know if this is typical of all of France, or just that as I'm in a rural area (Lot And Garonne dept.) they're just particularly tight around here and hang onto their older vehicles. The vans are everywhere - in UK I can go for days without seeing a single one. Even spotted a long wheel base, only seen pics - but though rare, they do actually exist on The Continent.

Here I see several driving around or parked every time I get in the car. Yes, car unfortunately - The Scud is at home alone. I decided to fly and hire a car, so a Clio it is. Next time the van will come. Must be good for spares here, new and used as some in UK are getting scarce.

So while we've binned most of ours the sensible French are hanging onto them. Although it rains a lot here (no pun), maybe even more than UK, I've not seen any with crusty sills or patches. Encouraging to see so many old MK1s. Vive la France! Vive la difference!

Re: In France at present...........

Every time I go to France I notice how much they love their Peugeots, Citroens and Renaults. They're patriotic right down to their cars lol

I bet the UK's scrappage schemes and CAZs got rid of a good number of the Mk1 vans

Words of wisdom: Internally rust proof the sills and subframe! both skins!!. There's always user serviceable parts inside. "Oh that shouldn't have happened".

Convert to right hand drive? After seeing the work you put in on your videos John, I know you're serious.    smile

Would make a great mini camper. Strangely I'm not seeing so many MK2 later models, it's like they hung on to their MK1s and didn't bother downgrading. No offence to MK2 owners.     wink

As Ken says, they are patriotic. Seen plenty of old French cars, Dyane van and several old, boxy Peugeots inc. a very tidy 604. That's a rare beast now. Wish we still had our car industry and were patriotic.

Hoy. I have an LDV Convoy for a camperbus and an LDV Maxus for work. OK the Maxus is pushing it thinking its British but the badge means something no?  big_smile
