That extended LWB is amazing! I bet it would be a hell of a job making the back into an empty shell for camperising though

Not sure TBH, but as long, as you are careful with angle grinder, don't get too carried away, that would be as big as my bedroom space (almost) devil

Those 1.6 vans have weak engines and gearboxes. I've seen so many for sale as spares or repair on ebay, with gearbox and engine issues. i think at least if you stick with the 2.0 HDi it's a known quantity.

I'm past the small van phase. If I came across the right Transit, specifically a Euro 5 or 6, MWB, High Roof, then maybe. But with all likelihood I will move back to cars, with cheaper everything. But for me a Galaxy of around 05-07 would tick the boxes. It will take the smallest version of the porta potti (and yes I can just about sit on it), it has load length of around 2m (so I can lay in it) and they tend to have cruise control and do quite a lot of mpg. Also less electronics than modern monstrosities.

If you want a larger van consider the LDV Maxus. I paid £1500 for my 07 plate over two years back. Changed belt and clutch as it had no history but its a work horse. Easy to work on. Plenty parts available. Galvanised body and the 2.5 VM Engine used in some Jeeps. You can get a SWB low roof, LWB mid roof or LWB high roof. Mine was a mini but but using it as a work van so blanked the windows and wood lined.

I just can't do the work anymore and once you start having to pay, it's just not practical.

Agree to stay as clear, as far as possible from 1.6's, but that catering box is (was) 2.0 HDI

Nearly bought a 2.0HDI 130 bus variant... went on to get temp insurance- NO!
Tried to get full insurance, to include part time work- business usage... under 10k anualy...

From just over £300 notes I'm paying now, I've spent near last 18 hrs wrangling interwebz and phone to get it quoted- insured for less than £700, some are refusing point blank, some are coming up with £2.5k and one £5200!!!!

I'm in a same'ish kettle m8. Do rare occasional jobs, absolute struggle with my long covid nonsense, but have to! and to do as little as I manage- got to have a van for.
These days it seems as there aren't that many jobs about, so people would be changing trades, selling vans, right?- nope- buggers are still as way overpriced as anything neutral

Anyone wants a punt at a mechanically mint, aesthetically poor, genuine 135K Peugeot Expert Tepee 130 HDI 2012 reg with made wheelchair ramp fitted (biking-camping holiday or a sleeper camper conversion etc).... but knackered turbo (£1K all in job)...

PS, if not sucking and smoking- would've loved it, would've been massive upgrade for me

Out of x4 that I looked at, this one is a reasonable investment, in a sense, repaired would be profitable to sell or ... Makes sense to have it repaired to end up with 2012 reg luxury "sports" van.

So many times I've looked at cars and vans in the last ten years, with apparent knackered turbos and probably 7-8 times out of 10, there's a leak on one of the hoses. I've had three cars and a van with holes or tears in hoses, usually you can tell if there is a ton of oil everywhere and usually a quick feel around will confirm. But you can drive them without the turbo as well, just keep the revs low and don't push into the rpm where the turbo engages. that's how I got mine back from Essex after I bought it, at 50 mph. smile

My plan was (once learned about smoking-turbo) was to get to the nearest garage, get 5l oil and keep stopping every 5-10 miles, hence took off front bumper, so it wouldn't fall under...
Oil?- none! literally 0 o a dipstick, asked for some... so it started to suck it, as much as the diesel.

Insurance issue of NCD's transferred, invalidating the cover for old van and the cost of it... and then hell knows how long would it take for mechanic to sort it out leaving me without a van that's what broke the camels back, but thinking off it- dam! (I will regret it) it would've been an absolute perfect vehicle for me at the end of a day decent looking, driving like a train, can get my tools or motorbike in to go off for a break or so)... live-regret-learn- eff NO!

Last night bid 1133 for a van that went 1170 and it's way old ('er) (6 years) "so so" example with half higher mileage (clutch toot toot), only 110 HDI and many other unknowns...
