Hi guys, taken my old girl for MOT, knowing it wouldn't pass, but to try my luck mainly.
Picked it up- no print-out, but failed by how much- I wouldn't even get explained, lad didn't do print-out even...
Got to get it off my hands by 11'th, if not local scrap collectors.
Good points:
Starts like a dream, battery about 4 years old, (WAI) 1.7KW starter about 2 month old
all x4 tyres are good, Heater fan blower replaced about a year ago
Nice condition headlights, most of the panes (doors) are OK
Clarion original radio with steering wheel controls
Bad points:
Rust "fixed" (hidden) on the rear seals isn't flying past MOT (on the other hand- p4icks)
front RHS hub knackered (lower control arm replaced about a year ago) (ABS type, with "bigger holes")
Spare wheel carrier ?bent? clanking on
Photos will follow up tomorrow
Anyone within 100 miles and space to store it? , I'll deliver it to you for the price of diesel... and you gonna have to take me back to the nearest train station
Cheers

Sad to hear you're not able to keep it going. But I know you knew it was coming. Rust can be a bitch.
I assume it's worse than the 3 Bad Points you've mentioned - I wouldn't call those terminal so I assume there's more to it.

Within 100 miles of where?
Share with us some details of the van. DW8 1.9D I assume? The things that are meaning the garage are not bothering

Mainly is. I've seen the correct hub on FleaBay, but I knew the rust to be 5he end of her

They are, it's a shame where I live "mechanics" are as bad/lazy and as expensive as they are

My bad, Farnham Surrey/Hampshire borders.

The reg is PE54VFZ, mileage is about 150 miles, full of all sorts of crap ATM, gonna try to empty after the docs appointment later on in the day and will post more about it.
To a someone keen on it and able perhaps possible to fix her up, but I'm inclined to use her as donor and I would, but nowhere to park, especially if to start stripping bits off.
Forgotten to mention real industrial style roof-rack, that had x10 sheets of plasterboard, x14 4"x8" x4.8m ~ 500kg and did 20 miles (+with all the tools inside) at one stage few years ago and held up in one piece.

did mere 25 mile round trip... not sure, if that's something to do with attempted MOT messing with it or not, but engine sounded bit noisier and that RHS hub started to clank even more or am I noticing it more...
It's pouring outside, no photo's or van emptying today
quick vid from inside/start-up to keep your interest happening

Last call guys and girls, before she goes to breakers tomorrow
Few things to ad:
V5 "disappeared" since last couple of weeks, but proper receipt, with ID will be given
Inside there's washing machine, that turns out TIP's don't take in, got to be done via car
x2 knackered, perhaps possible to make one good EGR, old starter motor is there
Missing plastic of RHS (driver) door is inside, matter of getting new clips or just stick it on, as I had it
It'll be a shame to scrap it, she served me well for the last 6/7 years I owned her, would make great work van for someone to fix her up, if one is capable and got where....but got x2 breakers ready to take her in and it's got to go tomorrow, as MOT runs out day after.
Road Taxed till end of a month

ahh, nope!
it's got sticky Velcro thingies, that hardly touch, hence opens once in a while

Front driver (RHS) mount/stump knackered, (wishbone replaced last year), new available at £45 + labour... but to get used one with ABS and "Bigger holes" for calliper is like to find hens teeth. Mind you couple of months ago, seen one for ridiculous £65, didn't get it, kinda regret it now
Rear bottom seals patched up with resin (badly), needs welding... or more gunk on it and hidden.
And possibly something else more, but lad that I've taken in for pre-MOT check up, might have found something- anything, didn't print nothing pointing out rust on "rear of the van" (meant seals up to jacking points) and that I need to change the mount firstly, before bring it back to him...
think what you want, he just wanted to create work for himself, not what I've taken her in for.... but mechanics this way- some sort off alien breed, haven't found anyone that I'd want to use again or recommend to anyone.

That honestly hardly seems terminal. Some welding and some unknown stuff under the sealant.
I get not being arsed and I'm trying to resist collecting way too many vehicles. And Surrey is a bit far. I just don't want them to die!

I'm gutted too to let her die, but for me to try to patch it all (+whatever else, I'm unaware off) it will come back more than van is worth in labour alone...
Honestly in my 30 years of all sorts off cars owning and repairing, this van is the hardest to part with. And I've owned SAAB's BMW's Fords etc, simply value for money aspect, reliability just not comparable to none other.
On a positive few bits might come up on FleaBay to keep others on the road, "positive" of the sort...
Off topic, but my Pug 5008 2010 2.0HDI "Sport" was £3k in repairs alone, meanwhile "worldwide chip shortage" gone and market for used vehicles crashed, meaning if I'd found a decent mechanic to deal with rust issues, hadn't gone in to "rabbit burrow" to stop repairs would've gotten this one fixed up x5 times over or more...
Ah well, bit off a sad farewell, but it is what it is.

The "crime against common sense" committed, she's being torn to shreds as we speak.
Someone, with facilities for could've made in parts approx:
Tires (wheels) x4- ~£100
x6 doors in varied condition ~£200
Internal blower fan replaced about x2 years ago, but van done 4k miles since- ~£30
Starter about a month old "top quality" 1.7KW WAI- ~£40
Original (replaced Valeo) headlights (mint) x2 - ~60
Yuassa Battery about x4 years old (mint) -~£30?
Original Clarion radio- ~£10?
super heavy duty roof rack (paid £120)- ~£40
bare engine DW8 145k miles- ~£300
seats in poor condition x2+x1- ~£20
perhaps something else (like plastics, shafts, gear box etc)- £100
AND leftover metal for scrap perhaps - ~£100
Ah well, shall treasure what good memories I had
Onwards and upwards!
