Hi guys, looking for a bit of advice. I've made the decision to sell my MK1 97 Van. I'm the second owner and had it for approximately 22 years. Its sat on my drive since 2016 and i've fitted an E7 taxi headliner with spotlighting and captains chairs from a Peugoet 807 (i think). Before sorning it, i've had new steel wheels and tyres fitted, clutch, brake servo, sump pan and power steering pipework. During its working life (i'm an electrician) it wanted for nothing. Every other week its been cleaned inside and out along with underneath so the chassis and subframe are solid. Even the sills are decent along with the jacking points. It could do with a new radiator and brake lines, shoes etc and it would make a nice wee day van or camper if thats what you'd prefer. My questions are where is best to sel it and for how much? Thanks in advance foe any answers.

What would a cold, hard, appraisal tell us?
This and previous posts tell us:
28 years old, laid up for the last 9, laundry list of jobs that need doing
for MOT, had some internal tarting up, 1.9D or TD at best, unknown mileage.
tyres 9+ years and may well need renewing.
I think it's fair to say folk aren't going to be throwing money at you.
If it were mine I'd be pricing up the cost of getting it MOT'd against what I'd get for
it as is.
No MOT usually means spares repair/scrap value.
An MOT will increase its value and sellability but probably not double it.
Somebody might want it as a project and at the end of the day its only worth what
somebody is prepared to pay for it.
Please don't take this personally, it's what I do when looking at my own van
when considering whether to keep it/tart it up/flog it.
I know I could spend a grand on it and not get that back and any gadgets and tarting up we do
are fun but pretty meaningless if it wont pass an MOT.
Where and how to sell it? well its obviously Facebook, Gumtree or Ebay I'd say
or stick a note in the window for passers buy to see

Thanks for the appraisal. No offence taken, i hear what you're saying and totally agree. I'm of the opinion, despite the condition of the bodywork and engine (111k miles) thats its probably cheaper to scrap rather than pay for it to pass an MOT. Sad to say it tbh as its a rare find these days given the age. I'll need to fend off the idiots on Facebook marketplace too lol.

I find Gumtree to be useful and free to and bought this van from there
It has its eejits the same as Facebook of course
I will often insist on 'calls only' and ignore texts as this can help sort out the
time wasters from serious buyers.
You may be able to flog a few bits off like the seats before scrapping it to make an extra few bob
If you weren't in 'Auld Reekie' and me in Bristol and you were scrapping/parting it out i may have been after those seats as they do look nice, but those and the other upgrades may help you find someone interested in a project your side of the Pentland HIlls or borders even.
BTW Gumtree is pretty much nationwide
I've flogged stuff I thought would only be advertised locally and had folk from all over the place contacting me.
I was selling a wee scooty and had a lad near Glasgow asking about it.
I'd avoid Freeads.co.uk site if I was you, I tried it and it was a waste of time

That's nothing for the XUD engine, I bet it runs beautifully
its probably cheaper to scrap rather than pay for it to pass an MOT
If you sell it without an MOT, then people are gonna think the same thing.
If your fallback is to scrap it, you could always put it through an MOT and see what happens. Who knows, it might not need much to get through
Then you can sell it as a runner with a price to match
Is it the 1.9D ot TD? ie Turbo or no turbo?
captains chairs from a Peugoet 807 (i think)
Are these swivel seats?

He mentions that they are in an earlier thread.
"The arm rest has completely sheared off. I'm going to attempt to fix it somehow. Nice leather seats out of a Quicksilver and look super comfy."

Agreed, that's a really smart looking interior. I'd buy it myself if I could swap that interior over.
And the seats. Do not let them go to scrap, they're far too valuable

I went to the MOT Status to look up whether the engine is an XUD9 (1905cc) or DW8 (1868cc) and confusingly it's 1867cc?
Axelfols, do you have a picture of the engine? Might be good to put it on the eBay listing actually

As ridiculous as this sounds, those seats might be worth more than the rest of the van, just based on supply and demand, and what I see things priced at on eBay. Swivel seats for mk1/mk2 vans, in good condition, go for several hundreds.

Yep, sold for £320. Stil waiting on the buyer to take it away as its sitting on my drive and i need it gone. The buyer seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth and is not returning messages despite paying.
I'm in 2 minds whether to give them a refund or put their name on the V5 and move it onto the street without an MOT or insurance.

Awkward situation.
Not sure how I would handle it, things could get quite complicated. I suppose it's his property now.
Whatever you do, clearly warn and give him notice of your decisions in ebay messaging.

Send them a registered letter saying the van (goods) are overdue for collection
and becoming a nuisance as you need the space for a new vehicle.
If not collected in good time or fixed date arranged and held to for collection
the good will be disposed of probably by scrap vehicle collection.
The fact they've 'gone dark' works in your favour IMO as you held up your end of the deal and they are at fault
by them making no attempt to communicate with you to arrange collection
This page is not quite the same situation but may help

Alternatively
Refund the money and offer it to the bidders just below who'se bids were close to the winning bid
or just relist it while reporting the non collector to Ebay as a time wasting arsehole
