For over a year I've been trying to summon up the courage to run my van on a supply of Waste Veg Oil I've been processing.
My van being the Bosch-equipped XUD I've always run it on straight veg oil but I've been wanting to make the jump over to waste veg oil.
It's a different beast. With SVO I just buy it and dump it straight in the tank. Waste oil on the other hand comes unfiltered, and I've cobbled together a home filtration system to get it filtered down to 1 micron
Most of the work is done in the settling tank. That tank is always full, and is replenished from the bottom. The idea being by the time it reaches the top, it's pretty clean. At which point it flows over to the third tank via a couple pof filter socks.

I finally had a time for a long distance, low consequence drive down south in December at which point I gave it a good run on 100% and I didn't even notice!
Well pleased with it, and now have no need for SVO and I only use a bit of diesel in winter to thin it out.
It's now my main source of fuel

That looks like it was actualy designed to collapse.
Put some cross bracing on them support legs!
Then please get to work refining cheap petrol. This Honda is killing me.

Hey those are held up with the finest Screwfix L brackets!
In seriousness though, it's surprisingly stable. I use them to move it around

I'll start fermenting my tins of sweetcorn into ethanol shall I

Interesting.
I wouldn't use SVO/WVO In my direct injection turbo lump mind you
but I get it, we'd all like cheaper fuel right?
I have experimented with mixing SVO and deisel in previous vans with both direct
and indirect injection and know in a pinch I could use it, but long term
there will probably be consequences of using SVO/WVO in a modern engine.
I've been down the rabbit hole of transesterification, pre heating, filtering, dual fuel, pre heaters etc
but the low time/cost/risk benefits don't look attractive..
For myself who probably only fills the tank 2-3 times a year it's an easier life to just try grin and bear it when filling up.
There's lot of stuff out there but for reference this sums it up

ive been runing WMO for years in all engines. i use a centrifuge to clean the oil i use which runs pretty much 24/7. i have it on a little dosing pump and a level sensor in the output tank so it turns off automatically. it filters down way more than any filter sock if you run it at a drip at a time. i built the centrifuge myself which actually runs from solar power! (i know right!) i may still have the origial diagram i did when i first thought up the idea.
the "black diesel" is good and runs clean all i do is add a bit of cetane booster to it and it runs really good. so far i have not yet needed to replace the fuel filter in any vehicle.
i highly recommend a centrifuge!
heres my design! i found it! feel free to copy the design.

Notice: I have the tendency to void warranties, blow fuses, cause fires, and other fun stuff.
Words of wisdom: Internally rust proof the sills and subframe! both skins!!. There's always user serviceable parts inside. "Oh that shouldn't have happened".
