Coming up to my first year with this van and
Its taking a while to get the van MOT'd.
1st time I made an appointment and turned up to find the tester has gone off sick
so had to book another date the following Tuesday
I turn up for this one and go for for a walk and when I get back they say it cant be MOT
as the handle of the OS door I sealed up cant be used
It had never occurred to me this was an MOT issue so I made an appointment for the next day and go home and put a plate over the non functional handle
the next day I drop it off and toddle off to the cafe and just as I get me cuppa I get a call from them saying the engine keeps cutting as the try to probe down the dipstick hole for oil temperature
wtf?
Luckily I'm close by and when I get back I find they have some gizmo plugged into the
OBD port to read the oil temp prior to doing an emissions test.
Dont ask me why they cant just read the temp gauge or use a thermometer.
The gizmo must have been interfering with the ECU as the van has never ever cut out on me.
In the end he does the MOT and it fails on the NS sill as I expected and a split drive shaft boot and it's booked in with my local guy to do the work next Wednesday
After that I hope I can go for a retest and get it MOT'd without any further issues.

Why the hell are they plugging anything in or messing with the dipstick for an MOT? They shouldn't be interfering with anything, just testing
Seems sus, but at least the final MOT wasn't too devastating

Yes, I knew the sill was needing attention and as you say, it could have been a lot worse
the dreaded sub frames etc.
My guy says it isn't that bad and shouldn't be that bad (expensive) to do
There was bit of wittering going on, but on reflection I 'think' the issue was his dipstick probe wouldn't fit
into the tube so he tried to get the oil temp from the ecu and my ecu didn't like being probed by his gizmo
I recall him saying he will order another probe so next time lets hope it all goes smoothly.

Just had all the welding and drive shaft gaiter done
£179
Not bad at all eh?
I'm dead lucky to have an indy mechanic a 3 minute walk away to do all the stuff
I cba to myself nowadays.
This is the guy who charged me £40 when the MOT garage quoted me £210
for a welding job on my old Galaxy.

Did the equivalent of a MOT test in Sweden this Monday.
Ny 1998 got through with just one thing to fix. Front disc breaks needed changing.
I really thought I'd get a list of things to fix, thus I'm a happy guy now.
The guy at the inspection center made me aware of a glitch in a part of the wheel suspension as well, not big enough to flunk but "good to know:.
As I'm crap with cars I'll get back to you when I have a picture of it.
They were both impressed I got it for about €250

I think anyone would be impressed!
€250 to get a runner that gets through the test so easy is incredible!

I got mine for £250, but immediately needed £450 of welding on it
Fortunately that was the last of the welding... right?
