OIL Filter housing removal HDI 2.0

Anyone who has mastered the trick of how to remove the oil filter on MK2 cares to share the secret. Found a clip on youtube where the guy used a universal joint but must have removed a few bits to my mind to be able to use UJ on a socket. To my mind this is a service item so access must be paramount. The only thing I can think of is a short spanner but those don’t come in 27mm sizes any help and advice is gratefully appreciated

I thought the air filter on a 1.6 HDI was designed as an afterthought until I discovered the oil filter housing on a 2.0

A quick search shows the weapon of choice to be a cranked ring spanner

27mm cranked spanner

You can get them for around a tenner

I had a nightmare the first time I did an oil change on mine. So very little useable room around the oil filter and if you didn't know where it was you'd never find it. Me and a mate were at it for hours trying to get it off. At least the fuel filter is easy!

The only thing that worked for me was a short 27mm socket on my smaller 3/8 ratchet, that gave me JUST enough room to twist it off and on. I tried the tool shown but with no luck. The socket on the housing being damaged didn't do me any favors either but it's been replaced with a new one since.
