Surprised i am due to its age and full of surface rust underneath. May as well clean and paint all that now i know its a good un. Advisory was handbrake slight imbalance but i want to do the brakes all round anyway so no worries. Had to get two tyres and as i am tight i have been going to the same place for part worn for years. He had no 175/70 so i got two 185/80 and put them on the rear. I will need to get on my Favorited twisty road but i am sure that it was more planted but then again that could be having a good tread. Van was pulling to the right when on my jolly and it was looking like i may have needed to buy tyres when away as the sides were bald and the middle was at the 1.5mm mark. I was thinking i need the tracking done but as the back is now on the front what is even tread its driving fine. Odd
So, brakes next. I want a set of pads what take heat and reduce the chance of fade like i had on holiday. Any recommendation?

Bugger. Brake pads for a 2000 1.9D. Two listed on eurocarparts both with wear indicator. Had a quick look when tyre man was changing tyres today and i seen no indicator. Anyone shine some light or geez a link to the pads i need for a W reg.
Cheers

I have felt more than once my van needs tracked as on occasion pulls to the left............... yet the whole time we were away it tracked true and straight.............
Could it just be way it's loaded or more likely the road camber..............
I have on several occasions lost brakes over the years............... And have become somewhat Anal on insisting to be able to stop..........
I can't remember the Brand but you can get Green stuff and Red stuff pads...........
I have something of an Adoptive son and about 3 years ago we did a brake upgrade on our V6 Vectra GSI project car and used Green stuff pads.......... For every day use....They were awful............ Didn't work worth a dam...........
But start pushing the Old girl on and creating some serious heat in the brakes they were great....... Big Downside, We warped a brand new set of front discs in an afternoons fun (God knows how hot you've got to get Red stuff to make them work)
I'd say make sure the load balance valve is free and all wheels are working/braking as they should.............replace Dodgy wheel cylinder, so there's no contamination of the shoes............. And use IMHO a good quality OEM brand name for Discs and pads
And don't forget to check and change you brake fluid... if it hasn't been done for a number of years
(Excuse me if I'm preaching but brake fluid is hygroscopic and if a lot of heat is generated it can boil the fluid and you can get long pedal travel and brake fade or worse effect)
And I would say that if there are no pads available without the wear indicator wire, but they are the right pad for the van .......... cut the wire off as it would seem your van does not have that option of a brake wear indicator but most likely uses the same Calipers as a van that does ......................I'm not sure if my van has brake wear indicator fitted and it's 05

You are probably correct about sharing caliper as Peugeot seem to do that a lot to save money. My last 306 non ABS had the same ball joints as the ABS model. Ill whip the wheel back off and take a picture. I got pads before and took them home to find my car was the year between changes. Nothing boils my piss more than this kind of time wasting. Yeah i did know about the fluid cheers. I do normally change all fluids when i get a new to me motor but for some reason never got round to brakes yet.
I dont need disks. No feel of warp up the pedal and running my fingers up them the feel spot on. You last owner did mention a brake overhaul so good chance they were changed in the past two/three years.
Yeah i am thinking pulling is more the camber. As any slight pulling i had on smaller streets today was to the left yet in Euro land it was pulling to the right. Camber and bad tyres were emphasizing that. Still, saves a few quid

Thought......As it was put to me that maybe the HDI's and heavier payload vans in the model line up might have larger brakes fitted so maybe its a case of new larger discs/rotors and the appropriate Caliper carrier to mount in correct radius as simplest upgrade
Or as you point out Casper PSA as lots of other manufacturers use the parts bin across the range they build for costs
So where to start investigating... 806, ulysee, synergy or is it more likely to be the higher performance C5's, pug 605's or that sort of ilk that could use the same basic hub patterns to bolt the bits onto

Here is an example of the CV joint, even citron is on the list. Ill see if i can order parts with the VIN number from anywhere. Might save a return hassle.

Reminds me - my MOT is due in a month.
Complicated by the fact that I've just broken my ankle in two places!

Well I've moved to the Castle Douglas area for a start, which has been a big and very welcome move. Been in Glasgow for 20 years and have loved it to bits but was ready to move to a more rural location.
Broke my ankle coming off a hill on Kerrera, a wee island just off Oban. Missed the last ferry so got patched up by an emergency nurse and spent the night in the Dispatch.
4 days in hospital and 3 hours in surgery.
Home now and being well looked after

Nope - From Motherwell originally .. but I've been camping and coming to festivals down this way for years (Knockengorroch, Moniaive, Eden .. ) have grown to love the area and an opportunity came up to get into a really nice spot

When i was a courier i was down Castle Douglas way to some open prison. Yip, it was open. No fence, guards or guns. Prisoners could just walk out the grounds and away. Bloody strange idea. Do they all talk funny like along the road in Dumfries?

That would be Penninghame and quite a few did just walk out and away.... That's a good 45mls farther on up the A75 than CD .... Yes they pretty much talk funny like along the road in Dumfries, but by the time you get to Newton(Penninghame) it's a whole different dialect again......
