Good Morning,
I have just purchased a Dispatch van. The odometer is not readable at all times but it is obviously still incrementing.
It is a digital display.
Is it true that these displays are back lit and that I can replace a bulb to make the digits visible?
If so does anyone know what bulb I should purchase and whether the dashboard is easily removed.
If it cannot be fixed with a bulb is it possible to replace the display unit without losing the recorded mileage.
If so where would I purchase such a unit.
It does not seem to be an MOT failure as it passed it's MOT last week, I am surprised that it hasnt been mentioned. Should it be a advisory?
Many Thanks

Nah, mine passed the MOT and its also buggered. I had my clocks out to try and fix it with swapping bulbs about but no joy. I dont think ill bother looking into it anymore but if you must try Dash-Tec

The fixed my Fiat Stilo clocks what were well F*****d but it cost £130 with a lifetime guarantee. Unsure if its the case with these vans but some the mileage is stored in the ECU.
Come to think about it are the digits not LED rather than LCD? LED would not need a back light would they?

Hi Casper, Thanks for he reply. Yes of course if thay are LCD they will need a back light otherwise would self illuminate. But initeresting that you passed MOT as well. I wonder how they get the mileage perhaps they can read it from the computer.

Mechanic friend of mine had similar issue with his Scudo and ended up buying a set of clocks from a van (without rev counter) from a online breakers.... He recons the mileage showing is pretty much what van had done (does mileage show if you shine a light on odometer)...... His current issue which he's ignoring is the clock, he couldn't get it to tell and hold the right time

So it must be the clocks rather than the ecu that remember the miles. Mine is intermittent. The digits dont disappear just very dim and unable to see in bright light. I think its dirt/dust either in the clocks or a black connector.
