Exactly at some point they'll refuse to issue umweltplakette ...... I did take note when we were away this year on what cities we had to watch out for or steer clear of on our route .... not many admittedly but none the less ........

Unfortunately the yellow sticker can only be used in one city now. Everywhere else is green, so no point in getting a sticker.
You do need to be on your toes to spot the signs - I ended up going right through the center of Freiburg last year and only seen one sign (by which time it was too late)

Crazy talk, how the hell can a 40 tonne truck be replaced with petrol? 3mpg at best surely! as for electric
Maybe back to steam power could work, what about all the diesel freight trains eh?
We are ruled by half wits

You have something of a valid point.... It seems that... Save the planet drive a diesel .... Save the city drive a petrol
However a couple of the company's (Supermarkets) I was contracted too in there Kent and South London RDC's, They were doing there so-called green bit more than twenty years ago by having a whole bunch of their new Artic's Engines converted to run on CNG (compressed natural gas) at a not insignificant cost to each vehicle converted and then there was the on-site infrastructure needed to fuel these vehicles and only certain drivers were allowed to use them because of training needed with the gas pressures involved during fueling and using them......
The vehicles had in-turn been transferred out of Kent as that RDC had been sold....... So much so I was still seeing these vehicles working out of Bellshill here in Scotland up until the last couple of years and these are 1996 registered vehicles which may indicate the investment/return needed on those vehicles....
On the other hand a very small family business I did work with had a small truck from new for 15..20 years, fastidiously maintained and something of an in house heir-loom..... and they were basically forced to buy a new vehicle that they didn't really need or afford in order to comply with i think Euro 4 and getting to the London fruit markets every other day........
The cost involved is only going to get past on to us all and it's not that green considering the energy needed to produce the new fangled vehicles and prematurely dispose of each out moded one ..............

CNG sounds viable but not capable enough for HGV, heavy freight.
Dr Beeching destroyed most of our countries potential to be green

Got to look good and do what they are told from Brussels. Merkel and Hollande will be most displeased if we dont seem to be doing what we are told. Cant say for other UK town and city’s But in Edinburgh the Council made the congestion mess with the bright idea of introducing greenways for buses. Leith walk was the first street to get it and they even managed to get a company from London to install/paint it. The idea was to push the car drivers onto the bus but they decided the day it started they put the bus fairs up. All major roads out the city got a greenway (now bus lanes) and congestion/rush hour soon turned to rush two hours. Buses rushing up the inside of the stationary traffic only to be stuck at the same lights or behind a queue of busses waiting at a bus stop.
Edinburgh is full of old tain lines heading all over the city. At the time most of there still had track down. The whining cycling groups who all need shot wanted them and cycle paths so they got them. Do they now use them? Do the F***. Cycle paths are littered with glass, looked fine last time I walked up them and cycle lanes are on the dirty side of the road. Council now says they can use bus lanes now slowing the buses as much as the cars so the whole system is lose, lose.
Had they used the old rail lines and build a proper tram system then Edinburgh would be a joy to travel round. They could have added freight car to the tram lined. At night artics making delivers to Edinburgh would go to distribution centres on the edge and good could use the lined to distribute all over the city and make deliverys on smaller greener motors. You only have to look at Tesco deliverys to see what a waste of fuel and money. I worked for Safways. We got something like three truck deliverys a week and this was mixed goods I.E Produce/Grocery’s and chilled, only frozen would get its own truck. Now its a delivery a day and a truck for each department. Tell me that is environmentally healthy and look at the food Tesco throw out. The last time I looked Edinburgh council was still using diesel vans. You ever seen how council many vans sit outside a council house that is getting renovated? Each trade man has one and you could have two sparks and two joiners on a job.
I moved out of Edinburgh over 15 years ago and hardly been back apart from visiting family. Lost my mum this year so now no need to go into the centre. My sister is on the East side what is handy as I live out on the east to for me Edinburgh can do one just like any other city that does not want me and my van/car. They want tourists as its all easy money. Peopel spending 100’s in Hotels, shops, Restaurants and entertainment. They dont want the shitty local who only has a pittance of disposable income that they spend wisely. Tourists in Edinburgh is all year round and councils will do anything to keep them happy and spending and if that means cleaner city and shitting on the locals they that is what they will do.
So if they want a cleaner greener city they just have to look closer within and stop blaming the cars. Affordable efficient public transport is all that is needed to clean the city up.

I hear you pal, I walk my dog along old train lines across warwickshire and surounding areas and villages, i think congestion has become so bad i can actually get across certain areas and cover more ground faster on foot.
What amazes me is a good percentage of people don't even know they are walking on old rail track

Another one for the environment lovers. Your average holiday jet or commercial flight is a Boeing 737 or like plane what only holds 140 people. How is that environmentally efficient? look at the fuel its using and look where its dumping the gas FFS. Oh and if it gets to its destination with to much fuel dumping it is still going on. Bastards
Look at this site

That is live with what planes are where. Drag the map over America or Asia. Yeah, diesel is killing the planet.
