Nah, i enjoyed and learned a lot of do and dont's doing it. I got back what i paid and also made money with the van through the odd small removal and gardening work so more than happy.

The lass that got it is also happy and planning a long round Europe trip for i think this year so it will get used for the purpose i built it for what is nice.

There's another off shoot of this here:

Self Build Campers - And Real Life

There was a bit of drama once upon a time as admins in the main one were getting a bit power mad and *post delete* happy cause things were slightly off topic.

Alot of people defected haha and ended up getting deleted from the main group because they had done so, I managed to get into both and passed under the radar of the admins and stay in both lol. It was funny. Mates and I had a laugh about it. it got a bit petty.

I might be exaggerating a little. But from what I remember it kicked off a little bit, can't remember what triggered it, something inane.  big_smile  big_smile  big_smile

I was a member 15 yrs or so ago.  Some very knowledgeable people there.  Most building far grander vans than I would ever want but the technical expertise was brilliant.

I left before the blow up, whatever it was.  Before subscription too.  It was getting a bit dominated by militaristic, survivalist types.  Not my scene but not a great problem.  But then it turned a bit right wing and BNP.  Don't think it was deliberate by the admins, just a few dominant members.  Anyway after expressing my opinion of fascists, I left.

I hate subscriptions and facebook almost as much as I do fascists so I won't be going back.  smile

I would expect them to be still doing some very good work though and probably still the best single source of advice for self builders out there.

Re: van for sale

Oh there's some great stuff on both yeah, really useful alot of the time, also sometimes alot of misinformation and people knowing best etc. the smaller groups are sometimes better as you don't get 86 conflicting opinions to read through from dodgy john and his dog when you see a post you're interested in. I haven't posted myself much on them, just read through alot of the stuff and stay out of it ha.

Anyway. Another good one is this...COP

Re: van for sale

A good forum for more professional help on self builds is SBMCC. Not that i want to take anything away from here but its got more specialised people for things like Gas, fitting, Hot/cold running taps even plumbing for showers and toilets if that is your thing

£15 PA but you get a sticker  big_smile

I never got involved with all the crap. I just went in for help/info and out again. I will join again when i am stuck as its worth the 15 quid just for the extra knowledge or reassurance you are doing something correct.

BTW. Link a video. Change the url tags to video ones IE [/video ] to close
