My name is Phil and I am the new owner of a 2003 2.0jtd Scudo.
The van was bought primarily for work, but I am planning a false floor with drawers containing a cooker, sink and storage space.
I would also like to pop some bonded side windows in the slide door (if they are available?)
The plan is to use the van for work and have a mattress made from high density foam to fit directly onto the false floor, that I can throw into the van and go camping and on my return, take the mattress out so I can use it for work again.
I am hoping to have it done by the summer.
The van itself needs a bit of body work as it has come into contact with gate posts on both sides of the van.
Mechanically, it seems ok, although I would like to get the cambelt, tensioner and waterpump changed for peace of mind.
I have mostly owned VW campers in the past, but the scudo drives nicer than any of the VW's I have owned and is quieter as well.
Can't wait for the summer to go camping in it!

Hi Phil. Just joined a week or so ago myself. Its a tad dead hear but looking through the old posts is handy. If you have never nade your own camper before some great tops and ideas on this forum
It will cost you £15 to join and get full access but the build information is worth it also if you dont know the Fiat forum.
I joined as my car is Fiat but i told them my Pug was the Scudo so get info from them also. BTW apart from the badg your van is identical to mine. Well if i polish it that is

Hi..Phil Welcome aboard .... That really looks like a decent base van to start with... there are a few links available on one of the other general boards if you haven't found them yet and as Casper suggests sbmcc is good for inspiration, http://vandogtraveller.com/ too but that's a much larger van , google Scudo camper (youtube) he uses his for work and play and has a removable interior
Having done a van before you'll have a good idea what you require and what works for you..... hard enough to figure out doing a van... I reckon much harder doing it and making it all fit in and workable in a smaller van
I looked at countless sites for ideas in all-sorts of vans and sizes as for Scudo,Expert,Dispatch/jumpy a greater number of those in a language I didn't under stand but lots of pretty pictures....
They seem to identify with these van more across Europe than we do here.
I measured in the back of a friends Scudo to see if a sofa would fit and realized perfect size for stretching out, ... The hunt was on!
Then I was lucky (or was that Lazy) and found our van (Citroen Dispatch/Jumpy, same as yours just different badge :no turbo though).....
Professionally converted from New by a small company in Yorkshire (Information booklet/pamphlet/handbook that came with it has our very van on the cover !) .........
Sorted
I like the idea of hiding in plain sight as it's just a van parked in a street of cars, beach prom, ETC and clearly not a motor-home to be moved on, although mine is a little more camper ish.
A couple of the pretty pictures I kept of a self build Scudo

here's just a couple links I kept

Interesting. That first link i can get a glass kit for my door at just over £100 with the fixing kit. Ebay want more than that for a door with glass.
Hmmm. Now what did i do with my angle grinder.
BTW. I was reading a post somewhere about cutting away the step behind the seats what you would attach the bulkhead to. It was not you that did it by any chance. I am just wondering if its structural and if i need to add support if i cut a bit away.

Hi Vaz, Those pictures you posted have made me think. I have some rock and roll bed hinges from an old VW T25 I used to have. I could use a similar layout, but with the hinges so the board over the gap moves back and the board behind it raises up, creating a back rest.
I will have a good look at the links you have posted as well.
Thanks for the welcome.

Casper...No it wasn't me but I think I saw the same post on here and I've read somewhere else about removing it ......I take its the little bulk head strip good couple inches high across van right behind passenger and driver seats..........half doz spot welds and body/seam sealer and as mine doesn't have it and neither do combi van,WAV's or taxis then at an educated guess no it's not structural... Apparently if you want to fit swivel seats you need to remove it for them not to snag on it ..... if I find that other link or a photo of such I'll post it here.
cheers........
P.S...........A HAAAA..... Found it ............ it's in one of the links I posted above......... http://www.campervanlife.com/peugeot-ex … conversion......... #14, #15
Bulkhead
"Hi Toby. We're converting a 2005 Citroen Dispatch, similar to your Peugeot in that it has single passenger seat. I've installed a swivel base for the passenger seat but found the low (four inch high) bulkhead immediately behind the seats gets in the way. Looks like your conversion doesn't have that small bulkhead. Did you remove it (it's welded into the Dispatch) or did you not have one in the Peugeot? It's been suggested to me that I shouldn't remove it as it may be structural?"
I had the same problem on my
"I had the same problem on my van and removed the bulkhead you are referring to. There were a couple of small welds which I cut through but 90% of it was just seam sealer. I don't think it is structural as the combi vans don't have this bulkhead anyway, and down the sides it is only secured with a small bolt & some sealant. It does take a lot of effort to get out but it really opens up the cab!"
And on "monkeynuts WAV" photo clearly shows it's not there...... http://dispatchexpertscudo.org.uk/forum … ncamp4.jpg
Phil............ have a wee look at this link I found again while sniffing around to answer Casper .... Insulation and sound deadening and using a basic IKEA Z bed type thing...........

Thanks for link about the Ikea bed. I may go down that route as it can be removed easily. Not sure I will find one for £4.99 like the guy from the thread did though!

Thanks vaz. That is the post i was looking for. Yip, im cutting mine out now
Goody. That link vas gave to the sound deadleing is also on the fiat forum and i got a roll of the sound proofing and two rolls of the flash banding on ebay for just over 30 quid. The flashbanding is a bugger to stick if your dint know how. You need a small inch wide hard roller and hair dryer as it sticks with heat. A decorators hot air gun should do but be careful as it might be to hot.
Also. If you want to line the van but dont want to spend to much time and money on teh inside this is an option

You can get a camping stove from go outdoors for around 20 quid.

After looking at the thread Vaz posted from the wild camping forum, I think I am going to go down the route of the bed from Ikea. I may put some altro safety flooring down and go with a removable kitchen pod that can go in an awning while we camp. Both the bed and the kitchen pod can be taken out and its back to being a van easily.
Have you got a link to the flashbanding on ebay?
Cheers.

You thinking double bed? another option if you can fix it to the floor and work it flat is a futon. I got one that is 4" wide. You may need to measure height as you are only 3"9 between the arches. I got it for to use as mattress and seat cushions when folded up. The wood is broken up to make the frame for seats and units.
Sorry was closer to 40 quid for the two
Flashbanding. I just went for the 100mm stuff. Two should be enough as you dont need to cover the whole panel. Just enough to stop the vibration. Sonic boom so to speak

Phil.... Don't want to tell my granny how to suck eggs, but having to put up awning every night to be able go to bed sounds a real pain in the Ar** .... we got an awning with this van an it got an immediate heave ho in favour of the yet unaquired sun shade ...... I've had mates and family .. go to and still in Australia ..... what they kinda did there, all be it with slightly better weather than us.... very basic kit in a L200 Mitsubishi van ?... got a slide out bed.. IKEA/futon style, but as they were a tad short of space used an old kitchen cupboard wall unit ... cut a hole on top put in a stainless bowel for small sink..... beefed it up a bit......... put it across back door used it inside and out for cooking etc ...but as it was only a foot deep it fitted within van along with bed.
I do believe they on occasion would strap it down behind cab seats so they could have their head at the rear door, propped open couple inches but locked/closed using a Caribbeana for some fresh air... I'd say they must have had a mossie net...... Ive also seen a link or something of that nature, ....... again I'll post it up if i find it
Cheers..................
P.S. Not unlike this

I would be using a driveaway awning and only when we were on site for more than a couple of nights. I had one on my last T4 which was attached via a magnetic kador rail. The awning stayed on site and when we got back I just reattached the awning via the magnetic rail.
For trips that didn't warrant taking the full awning, I will be taking the height adjustable gazebo and will put it up over the back doors.
