Rear conversion of my 2005 dispatch

If I can figure out how to attach it, here is a photo of the finished back of my 2005 van. Did it a few years ago. Stripped out all the plastic, insulated, ply lined and carpeted the rear third. It has a middle row of seats. Then built this wee area. We've a bike trailer that fits into the middle section when the table is down. The bulkhead folds down over the folded middle seats to make a sleeping platform. On the lhs as you look is a meths yacht stove which sits on a wee pull out drawer. Normally wherever your pictures are if its not showing the IMG tags you can open image, right click and select copy image location. Past that in your post and add the tags yourself. I have started to use this site for storage of pictures

Create an account and folders for your pictures. When you open one and select share and then select copy next to the forum tags and paste that here in your post.

so here are some photos of the construction process.  I stripped out all the plastic trim to try and create as much space, even an extra few centimetres.  Then I insulated and ply lined it, carpeted it.  Then I built my own verson of the amdro boot jump.  http://www.amdro.co.uk/products/boot-ju … 10_15.html?  I can remove it all if need be to create a van, and the middle seats remove as a block of three, or fold up.  The fold down bulkhead/bed goes over the top of the folded middle row of seats.  When I began we had 3 children, now we have four!  We've oly slept one night, 2 adults and 3 wee ones -I don't think we'll manage with 6 of us, but one day perhaps me and the wife will be able to abandon the children and head away.  It very flexible.  osCsid=6gcsnsgdp6q9ocu7dom8ovut21DSCN2462.jpegDSCN2597.jpegDSCN2457.jpegDSCN2602.jpegDSCN2376.jpegDSCN2373.jpegDSCN2362.jpegDSCN2312.jpeg

I like that. Happy family family unit enjoying the outdoors. How about a full drive away awning and the two older girls sleep in that in the summer months or the kids in the van and mum and dad in the awning. Roof rack for the fold up beds and the likes. Even a full rack and top box for clothing and the likes.

Think i would have binned the back glass for sheet metal rather than just cover. Did you lag the glass and drop the roof lining and lag that?

Yes nice.  Practical and well made by the looks.

It might seem interminable at the time but won't be too long before the eldest want pup tents.  In the meanwhile as Casper suggests, an awning or even dare I suggest, a medium tent.  Fine if you plan to mainly use sites.

Oh... and I would have binned the coverings on the rear windows and left them open.  Just shows eh, campervans are or soon become, as individual as the people who build and modify them.  Strangely far more so than our homes I think.  Only 3 people and three different preferences.

Vive la difference.

Thanks for the family pics too.  Almost made me miss my parenting days.  wink

If you look at his pictures you will notice the door stay is three fixing bold. You got your yet and bolted in? Reason i ask is if the bolts are the same as the ones holding your top and bottom back door latch on then i am sure i have some left over. I may have six and if i do i dont mind posting them on.

By the way Padre. Why padre, are you something to do with the church? Not that it matters just curious as i thought Padre was priest and also though a priest had to be celibate or are you a Glasgow Rangers fan taking the mick  lol

The listing I bought showed the bolts so I hope they will be there.  Thanks for the offer though.  I will be in touch if the bolts don't show.

They may have arrived in Scotland but I am down in Yorkshire just now.

I rang a few of those taxi breaker types.  All too dear.  Seemed to be totally ignorant people on the phone just making up prices.  One asking £45 the pair + p&p.  Found a pair for £20 delivered.

And I am sure those beautiful children are all perfect little angels.  That right Padre? wink

a part time army chaplain in the C of S! other wise a full time parish minister in a rough housing scheme. But I'm afraid not a Rangers fan.

The children are angels really, sleeping in the van was just too exciting though, so the plan of letting them sleep while we watched the sun sink didn't quite happen!  I think an awning is maybe the way, need to look at it in a bit more detail.

BTW, I'm now getting into this and I've noted a few blogs speaking of Alpha Romeo 147 15" alloys, are these the only fit?  I've always liked the idea of alloys but the missus was never keen and I'm not really a petrol head, but seeing as now I've made the committment to repair and keep for as long as I can, I like the idea of a bit of an upgrade.

I did take the ceiling lining down and insulated underneath, and I would have liked to replace the glass with steel, but had no idea how so just insulated over the top and boarded the inside, same with the doors.

@OAT I presumed you were down south. Let me guess. You live in Fife and somewhere between St Andrews and cupar. Reason i say that is i am sure the Porridge Oat's factory is up that way.

@PADRE I am most likely talking rubbish but i feel having glass its colder than steel. You buy sheets of it from motor factors. Its sold for the people lucky enough to be able to weld and make it look good (Not me) You will pay about £16 a side. I am covering a couple in my van and just put sealer down and pop riveting them in place then paint. Yes you can get other alloys to fit. Just dont nip out and buy a set as some need spacers ask about. If you are lucky some from a Pug 306 may fit.

Nice try C but I officially live in North Yorkshire.  I am currently spending most of my time caring for my mam in the Borders were we do have an oat rolling mill in town.  However OAT = Old Age Traveler, as opposed to the new age variety.

Had some great tours up past your place and along the east coast through Fife though.  Love to see the dolphins.  An area often neglected in favour of the west and by many as they dash through to the highlands.  Particularly fond of the Angus Glens and St Cyrus too.

In a nut shell no you have a little choice

Alfa Romeo 147, 156, GTV and 164 but careful that there the 5 stud rims
also Citroen Synergy and C8
Peugeot 806, 807 and Fiat Ulysse..... IIRC

Basically the Dimensions that you need for any wheel to fit our vans (the MK1)...... A PCD of 5 X 98... A Hub center Bore of 58.1 mm and whatever size of rim. you want / can get just be careful of the off set of rim and how wide it and tyre is as it may foul bodywork somewhere and or on suspension travel.

Personally 15" Alloys  are probably your best option.

(You could get and trawl a wheel fitment guide to see what other cars have same PCD as a starting point)




P.S. Sorry 306 wheels don't fit there 4 X 108 PCD

I fitted alfa wheels and as above they are the right PCD but the taper on the bolts is wrong. The consequences of this is they loosen off! or if you over tighten they can't be undone.
I am going to replace mine with 807 or C8 which have the same taper and a bit more offset
