Any advice welcome

Re: Speedo lights / Heater lights

Here's some instructions that copied a while ago - not too difficult (after you have done it once)

1) Remove 2 steering column torx screws (same head as the other screws)
2) Remove top cowl only (may not be neccessary) Bottom cowl is clipped at the bottom.
3) Remove right vent
4) Reach through right vent to unscrew plastic trumpet that holds the bottom of instrument panel cowl
5) Remove 3 screws holding in central vents - remove vent
6) Remove 2 screws holding top of panel surround and remove surround.
7) Remove 2 bottom and one top screw of instrument cluster.

I don't think I needed to remove the cowl in step 1 & 2
The "trumpet" in stage 4, is simply a plastic part about 5cm across with a bolt stuck in the thin end - designed so that you can screw it in and out with no direct access.

The bulbs are 286 CAPLESS 12V 1.2W

Re: Speedo lights / Heater lights

Thanks for that
I'm paranoid about being able to see the temp gauge at night and hate doing this sort of job
How do I access the heater control lights, any ideas?
Cheers

I was wracking my brain as to how I took panel off and changed bulbs about a year ago..... IIRC  I had Two intermittent working/flickering bulbs so changed all 3 when in there....  kinda small fiddly bulbs for my fat fingers......

Have look here
http://dispatchexpertscudo.org.uk/forum … .php?id=62

same bulbs as binnacle I think..... 1.2w

Re: Speedo lights / Heater lights

I've just done the heater lights, very straight forward thanks for the help.

Can't seem to access the dashboard.
I've removed the centre heat vent
I've removed the two screws from around the cowling
I've removed the top piece of the steering column cover
I've removed the right hand heater vent

I still can't remove the black dash surround.
Despite reaching through the heater venom the right I can't find the plastic trumpet to undo to release the surround.

Found it!

It's trumpet shaped under the dash to the right of the steering column.
Torx screw up the centre of it.

Speedo is removed by three screws, two bottom, one top

Didn't realise how many bulbs were out behind the dash though!
I need about another ten!

Think you need to lift the gator out for the gear shift (spring clips) then you see screws for the ashtray. Im sure that has to come out to expose the heater screws. Its an easy job as i had to change my slider controls.

Job done, well almost.
286 type 12v bulbs are 5 for £1.50 at my local motor factors, £1.99 EACH at Halfrauds.
Just need to get some more and reassemble the dash, there's a surprising amount needed behind the instrumentation

If you mean the ones behind the sliders they aren't too bad to get at.

If I remember correctly...

Pull the trim at the base of the gear lever.  It's just clipped in.  Underneath are the screws for the ash tray.   Take that out and it reveals the screws for the cover trim over the heater controls.  Carefully pull the slider knobs off.  Take the cover trim off and you can see the front of the pcb for the siders and lights.  Its held down by quite a few v small torx screws.  The bulbs are on the underside of the board.

Check as you go for any screws or fixings I might have forgotten.  Twas only last week I did it but my memory is useless.

It would be a good idea to check the condition of the slider contacts while your in there.  Its all a bit flimsy for something that can get quite hard use.  No wonder they tend to be unreliable.
