I only got one key with my van and to avoid the inevitable disaster really need another. Old style with no central locking or chip.
Can anyone suggest anywhere in the Borders or NE areas I can get one cut? I have been thinking I would just pick one up on my travels but haven't been able to.
With the advent of remote locking and programmable keys not so many do the old fashioned ones anymore. And the ones I have asked don't keep the required X section blanks in stock.
Can't risk sending my only key through the post and I have little faith in those claiming to do them from photos.
Looks like a run out somewhere to get one. Any suggestions?

I had my remote key cloned last year and as like you felt looming disaster if I continued to Spain with only the one key so had another non remote key cut on route......If your in the Carlisle area go into Kingstown estate .... Coming from the borders region its over J44 of M6 on the A7 then pretty much first right follow round and on your right is entrance for Premier Inn J44 Carlisle and branching off that is the car park for Curry's PC world and Homebase.......... At the car park entrance is a Cobblers etc kiosk type thing.... "Keyishoes" ...... they cloned my remote key and cut a blade on the spot took about 15 - 20mins with checks from driving in and out, so I'd have thought they should be able to cut you a key .... Be worth a call if your heading out that way........

When i looked into it the local locksmith said i would be luck to get a shop with the cutting gear. Its an attachment doe there wheel that they do have but it costs a few hundred quid and no one is going to get that for the sake of a chance one person comes in a year wanting a Pug X shaped key.

Yes they have it listed but not in stock. I doubt they ever will now.
I pass Carlisle every month or so and will try Keyishoes next time. Cheers vaz.

Can't help you with specific locations, as you are the other end of the country, but can provide a little reassurance. When I tried to get a new key I had a few places telling me that it was electronic and they couldn't do it - I had to go to Peugeot. I had to insist pretty hard that I just wanted the key and that would be fine, and yes it was my own risk. Timpson's just refused, another place didn't have the blanks, but I eventually found a place in Cambridge (MIll Rd) that had the right blanks. They weren't keen but did it anyway for a tenner or so and it's been fine.
My van did originally come with an immobiliser but it was a third-party thing, not built in, and I could only ever get one of my two fobs to work. In the end I just got rid of it as more trouble than it was worth (and fitted a solenoid-nobble switch for parking in dodgy places). it is nice having the last of the all-mechanical vans. No computers to argue with :-)
