Hot-rodding a Dispatch

Our 04 Dispatch is going to need a new engine at some point. A like-for-like hdi transplant is an option, but I'm wondering if anyone on here has ever fitted something bigger or hotter in an attempt to create a discreet q-van..

Brenda (our van) will ultimately be a camper, but is it possible to create say a 140mph autobahn-ready version? If anyone knows of one, I'd be interested to see pictures, along with engine specs, suspension and brake modifications.

I'm not a boy racer by any stretch of the imagination, but I do think the Dispatch frame could handle plenty more oomph.

I think they did a 2l petrol version on the continent, not sure what you could squeeze in the engine bay to give you 140 though. Something along the lines of a 2l turbo?

I did watch a you tube vid of a doblo camper with a 5 cyl turbo motor  going like Sh** of a shovel .....

Don't think they ever gave an option on the 806 with the v6 (it's not that great a motor even if it was used by Volvo)

But I'm sure there was plenty forums of  2.0l turbo swaps into 405's, 406's and boosting the likes of 205's & 306's ........

IB The latest and pokey ist version of the HDI you have in your van would be the Dw10fc 16v =180PS ....The DW12 =2.2L ranges from 100PS through to DW12 c 16v =203PS ...... A 2.2 twin turbo HDI  from a C5 or a 407.... in standard trim knocks out 170 bhp ? .... should drag the van along nicely ..... just a thought

Peugeot 306 had 1.9d and in later years the M16 engine outta the 405 so could be an easy option (If the engine weren't so scarce  big_smile )

Cheers vaz2121 & Anchor.....a good starting point I think. Looked at a few engines online; would need to find out if it's a case of dropping one straight in the van or whether there would need to be engine mount mods etc

A lot of these went into 205GTis I think. Shame...always thought the 405 was a nice looking car

Re: Hot-rodding a Dispatch

The 405 GTD was next level on the sierras etc, but if i'm honest it was ugly. The 306 s16 was the best home for that engine, and they seem to be going quite cheap for in my opinion a classic

I would say if the engine or a derivative of was fitted to a car as well as the van or one of the people carriers that the van is based on ......... There should be a engine/gearbox mount available ............
