For the past week heater has been playing up. First it was nonexistent, then on constant full blast, then back to nothing.
Anybody any ideas???

They are known to be temperamental. Lot's of threads all over here and elsewhere but no single, simple fix.

Most often seems to be the slider controls, or one of two electrical components on the blower. Rectifiers (or as Anchor said "resistors"?) I think?
Mine failed last spring but I have put it of all summer. I need to sort it now.

Im just back from being down Italy in the LDV and the heater stuck on. Need a new open close valve. As your problem is intermittent i would try electrical contact cleaner first. Open up the slider buttons and clean the metal strips the slider slips up. Be careful as you have small parts that break easily.

Biblical rain from North Berwick to Hull. Awaiting to get on the ferry wife noticed a leak in the back. Fecking rain getting in. Turns out its getting in the gutter at the front and with me driving running up the back and entering van at a shitty spot weld. Futon took the brunt of that but it was hot next day so drove with the back windows open and it soon dried out. Gaffa taped the gutter what works just now and ill fill it with fiberglass resin later. Day two setting up the awning van was stinking of diesel at the back. Fuel leak but only if i fill it more that ¾. Turns out to be a but flexi fuel line with a small split. Easy enough fix but need to drip the tank. Bugger is half full just now but apart from that the old bus did well. Need to get the restrictor lifted though. 60 mph is no fun

Passenger footwell from memory, you'll have to remove the glove box to give you better access and see it better.

New from eBay same as link above, took motor out to check which one I had, not bad for £20ish?

It's easy, disconnect big round multiplug to give better access, disconect multiplug from motor, remove 3 toed screws ( the one at back is a pain to get to) remove motor, take out another 3 ford screws holding regulator, disconnect 2 spade connectors and refit in reverse?

Not that Ive had this occur on my van yet
But a couple years back a WAV (Owned by a friend of mine)that I was considering didn't have a working windscreen blower and at the time I was told not to worry another one will be purchased and fitted .......
I didn't buy the van in the end (Nothing to do with blower I may add)
A new blower duly arrived and fitted up the back of the glove box area and worked just fine on all speeds....
However it took my mate a day or two to realize that although working on all speeds there was no blow so to speak..........
An almost dash out and check of all pipes and flaps revealed nothing
Apparently the van gets one blower motor .... The 806, Synergy or Ulysses which this blower motor came out of get two and He had got the wrong side
The motor fitted and appeared to do what it was meant too .......... It was the mouse wheel type fan ..... Had the blades pointing in the opposite direction from the failed one...
Not sure of the moral of this event ...... Thought I'd share it though

Success! Two years without a heater finally sorted out with an hour's graft

Shuggs - thanks a million - your instructions were spot on. Only thing for me was that I had to hack-saw off a bit of [unused] plastic bracket at the back of the fusebox as the motor wasn't going to come out while that was there.
Maybe there was another way - but no harm done!
I have a sneaking suspicion that the spade connectors were perhaps already disconnected before I got the motor out. I had to tighten both quite a bit when connecting the new one so they were secure. So that might have been the issue all along. The old resistor was a mess though and the new part was there to go in so off we went.
Such a great feeling to have warm air flowing in the van again!

Bit the bullet and had a look at mine.
Due to mobility and flexibility probs it's a nightmare. By the time I get laid on my back in the footwell with my feet in the road and my head under the dash, I can only stand it for a minute or two before cramping up and having to extricate myself. Getting my head, a torch, a hand and any tool in there without knocking my glasses of is almost impossible.
But then a thought hit me... I haven't yet even checked the fuse!
My wiring diagrams are awful though...can anyone please tell me where and which the heater blower fuse is?

You're right - it's BLOODY awkward!
I can't remember the exact location - but I'm pretty sure it's one of the chunky fuses in the box under the bonnet.
If one of them's blown - it should be pretty obvious.

Mine does not control heat just the speed of the fan. I needed a new one and costs £26 odds plus postage. I like a challenge (Tight) so did a bit searching and found out Nissan Micra ones are the same as LDV so a quick search on ebay confirmed and ordered one at £9 posted

Hmm .. I *think* the following describes my fuse setup (dispatch 2006) - I'd go and check but I still haven't managed to get my bonnet open! ....
This would place the Heater Blower fuse under the bonnet at MF3 position - and I'm pretty sure that sounds right for me.
