Key - HELP

Hi, when I bought my van I only got one key. The remote fob has stopped working, meaning I have to clamber in through the back to unlock the front door. The micro switch has come off the circuit board, and although my son is going to have a go at soldering it back on (his eyesight is better than mine) I'm not holding out much hope. How easy is it to get replacement key fob, and more to the point, how much??
Cheers

Re: Key - HELP

I think the blades and fobs are reasonable but won't it need programing?

I have heard horror stories of £150 and more from dealers.

Independent here but no prices:-

Re: Key - HELP

I spoke to a mate who owns a garage, he said there are kits on eBay.
I had a look and their are new outer covers for our keys (some of the ones for other cars have replacement microswitches included), and new switches can be bought separately I think (I need to check the ones for a Peugeot 806).
The trouble is that they are Surface Mount Technology, so a fine soldering iron tip, good eyesight and a steady hand is needed.

This isn't looking good so far......

Re: Key - HELP

I bought one of those micro switch repair kits for a corsa we've got....... Only had a std tip soldering iron not the best eyesight and probably a shaky hand (should put that to good use    angel )
Maybe I was lucky... solder looked a bit snotty but it's working a treat...  It's worth a bash.......

I found that some cobbler/key cutters do replacements/cloning.....Not sure what you call these guys that claim they can do on location replacements.....Anyway I had mine cloned by a guy in Carlisle......

I had tried a few key cutting shops first some did have appropriate blade..... However cost varied greatly

Re: Key - HELP

I posted some info about keys a while ago http://dispatchexpertscudo.org.uk/forum … 2378#p2378
As vaz says the immobiliser chip in the key can be cloned - but not the remote. Each remote had a unique ID that needs to be paired with the van using Lexia/PP2000 - I've done this several times and could help, but I'm down in south Bucks.
A few months ago the wife's remote stopped, and like you the microswitch had fallen off - but was undamaged so I was able to solder it back on. Since the switches are surface mounted, its not as easy to solder - best done with a needle tip iron. Alternatively if you are not comfortable doing the job, take the bits down to your local mobile phone repair shop they should have no problem soldering it back on for you.

Re: Key - HELP

£164 from a Citroen dealer, and they'd use the key blade off the old one....

Re: Key - HELP

Got my son on the case with a tiny, needle tip in his soldering iron. He's managed to solder the surface mount microswitch back on, and it works! Proud of him!
