Lap belt conversion

Hello all

I have a 03 Dispatch with the bench style front passenger seat . The belt for the passenger next to the driver is a lap belt

I wonder if anyone has converted this to a 3 point belt without changing the seat or know if it's possible

Your thoughts on this ?

Re: Lap belt conversion

I am sure it would be possible using readily available parts and ingenuity.

I  considered it years ago in a different van when my kids were young.  (A different world even! smile)  I didn't go ahead because of doubts over insurance cover.

Unless it was a propriety kit, tested and approved, I think in a worst case scenario, you could be left in a difficult state both personally and legally.

You could build something as safe as any 3 point set up and certainly a big improvement over a lap strap, but unless tested and approved it wouldn't meet regulations.

There are commercial options available but last time I looked, they cost nearly as much as my van.

Re: Lap belt conversion

Look into mini bus seats. Ask around in your area as plenty people converting them and cant sell the buggers. You get a double with belts fr little money. Just ask for measurements and measure yours but seat height not seat and base. I can vouch that the convoy seats bolt off the base so bin that as its to tall for your van just use your base.

Even better. Pug Boxer is will look more similar. Shame about postage price
