This weekend saw me taking a trip from up north to dahn sahf. Following my other thread where I was concerned my MPG was looking pretty poor, and losing faith that I can get it to anything half decent, I decided to give this run a few controlled tests.
Method
- My Dispatch has the mechanical pre-ECU DW8 engine
- It has an XUD9 Bosch pump fitted
- Mitigating factors are a slight fuel leak, and a solar panel fastened on the roof
- All trips were run on 100% Supermarket diesel
- Each time I brimmed the tank. That means painstakingly standing there, repeatedly trickling diesel in, letting the bubbles settle till I see bubble-free blue liquid, till it just about starts to pour out the side.
Trip 1: Bradford to Basingstoke
- Road type: Motorway
- Speed: 50mph
- Route: [Bradford] M606, M62, M1, M25, A3 [Guildford] A3, M25, M3 [Sunbury on Thames] M3 [Basingstoke]
- Miles: 300.2
- Litres: 30.16
- MPG: 45.25
Trip 2: Basingstoke to Swindon
- Road type: Mostly country roads with hills and acceleration, Some A roads
- Speed: Mostly 40-50mph, but slowing as roads (and hills!) allowed

I'm not going to argue with those figures......
Especially your last figure
Other than just monitoring general tank filling my last reliable fuel keeping (Long trip) : Driving from Adinkerke down through France (2016)over Pyrenees on to the Atlantic coast within a few miles of Portugal and then back over to the Costa Brava (Barcelona) and back to Adinkerke in Belgium Via Couple of diversions can't remember total mileage or exact fuel return figure, But a little under the 40.50 MPG rings a bell.
That mostly at a 60/65 MPH limit on M/way's and a lot of National route with a if possible limit of 50 MPH e.t.c.
So I'd say your about whats to be expected
BTW...... 05 Dispatch Lucas Cav/Delphi pump and Roof box
Had a quick peek at a previous post ...............
http://dispatchexpertscudo.org.uk/forum … php?id=184
That revealed 3769 miles and 40.36 MPG for that section of trip I recorded at the time

I was going to say about snow, idling to thaw windows E.T.C. ............. But I'll just shut up

26MPG? Ouch. I hope none of those were motorway miles...

Barely 100mls would even be out of town A roads
Initially I thought it was not doing so bad ...... I guess as last Diesel I put in was January and it was either the first to start or was only one that wasn't stuck at bottom of hill in the snow and we had the took for ever long (it seemed) several times commute to hospital It did getting my partner out for her treatment ...........
I thought that's funny was showing well over 1/4 tank and it took 65ltr? .... But then I have changed the binnacle just before winter and other than all is working never gave it much thought........
25.9 or whatever MPG did get my attention this morning ... still I'll look on bright side...... Sunnier days are on the way ..... (I hope)
So now The question I've got is my tank larger than the 80lts I thought or just an optimistic gauge
(Think I already know answer)
