Chirping noise

Have been hearing loud chirping noises from the engine for a while. Definitely coming from the left side.
Unfortunatly it has been a bit intermittent making it hard to diagnose. Sometimes I can hear it at idle, but mostly between 20 and 50 when driving. Oddly it can dissapear for a second when changing gear.
Anyway I'm hoping its just the alternator or tensioner so I'm looking to slacken off the belt and turn by hand to see if I can feel anything. So on the DW8B is it just a case of pulling back the tensioner or is there some other special tool required.

I don't know if this applies to yours but mine's not a self adjusting one like I expected. I spent ages trying to figure the damn thing out.

The aux belt tensioner adjustment nut is here on my 1999 DW8 Dispatch

Thanks for the pic. Looks similar to my setup, but no nut where yours is.
Edit - After finding a diagram online I suspect that the adjusting nut is behind the cambelt cover. The instructions mentioned a tensioning tool. In the past I've just set the tension by twisting the belt by hand to 90 deg. Just wondered if this was good enough.

My Synergie/806/Dispatch were all different in their own special ways. The Synergie iirc had the adjuster nut sticking out the bottom, the 806 was self tensioning like you describe, the Dispatch has that nut at the top. My top one isn't behind the cam belt cover though.

I was led to believe if fitted with Aircon (like our 306)it's a auto tensioner and there's a big F off spring located where Kenb's photo's marked (changed ours twice)

but on a 98/99 Berlingo dog van we had.... The (IIRC) tension adjuster was accessed from under neath and roughly sat in the area where the Aircon pump lived.

No aircon only power steering.

This is your alternator diagram, which on mine shows the tensioner nut. Can't see the same stick on yours, or one at the bottom, and it's called a "retractor roller", so maybe it's auto tensioning.

Thanks again. Bit of a nuisance to get at for me since I've got a leisure battery in the way.
I did try to get a little wd40 onto the pulley shafts in the area, with no noticable effect - until a day later when the noise stopped (as soon as I rigged up a mic on a stick to locate the source).
Now thinking it might be the belt itself, even though it's only a couple of years old.

@kenbw2 Tried cleaning the belt which removed the noise for a few days. But the noise has got rather loud so I think I'll replace the belt, for now. I'm on the road at the moment so hopefully the job is simple.
The pulley you pointed out does push back, so I'm assuming that I just need to peg it back and slip the belt off. From what I can see the current belt is 1438 rather than 1437 in the diag above. I'm assuming that the extra mm is of no consequence.
