Hi, I'm thinking of making a couple of simple roof bars out of box section steel, do they simply screw into the M6 captive threads on the roof? Or is there more to it?
Cheers

My bars have little stand off type bits allowing the bars to be bolted to the m6 but yes basicaly box section

I assumed you're meant to get rails for them like n the Synergie/806, but could be wrong.
That said, I bolted my solar panel on using M6 bolts and it works fine

Mine was brackets this shape at either side and a bar across. 3mm steel i think they were and the bars were thule or whatever they are called. Found them on gumtree for 15 quid or there around.
That's the sort of thing I was thinking of making, so just the screw bolting it down then.

Yes. Mine had a rubber washer between the bracket and van. Dono if it was needed but just left them in anyway. What i also did was attach my awning rail along them as the van was not tall enough for the one i bought.

Yes is the short answer.........As per Kenbw2's photo and Casper's image, I would say prudent to I'm assuming to spread weight across roof/Bracket ..... My van came with a set of Rhino bars which did just that but I found the bars sat my roof box to high and made a god awful noise at my cruising speed ........So utilized a couple of Fiamma motor-home rails bolted directly to roof and modified old aero bars? to lower box and cured the whistles etc. ......................

I also added couple of these to the roof bar mounts ...... to be able to rig up sum quick shade/cover if required
