2006. That the last of the MK1? If so TBH its just the same inspections you have when buying a car as the 19D is 99% indestructible. All gears working as they should, Find fast road if you can and watch for smoke, (Not all is bad) listening for unusual noise, Under bonnet is engine dry? Look under also and it the gearbox to engine mating dry also. Nice soft clutch. All four corners sitting at same height. Heater fan speed is a known issue and your gear shift is cable, bloody expensive cable so make sure that is smooth. Find faults and suck air between teeth then start taking money off asking price. Lock housing has a lot of plastic so door locks may spin before opening doors. Parts are available cheap but also use that to bargain if its an issue, but aye even if it was a builders van that engine would take the abuse.

Thanks for advice Casper, I never thought about seeing how the stance of the vehicle looks, added to my check list, yeah I heard engines are built that way, fingers crossed for later,

Hi no I'm still not a newbie yet.....I got the three and there were so many dents cracks dings rust and locks missing, plus ripped seats.....and they guy never even showed, he forgot I was coming when I rang and said I'm at his nans looking at the van..... so I said no thanks don't waste his time to chat seeing he already wasted mine and I left miffed. It's annoying because being here in Cornwall it's hard to find things close, next one is about 45 miles, I seen a possible one in Coventry, there is a nice red one with windows, 2005 55 plate for £2500 very low mileage which I might see if they can drop price when I ring him tomorrow, the one is about 80 miles, thing with Cornwall it takes year get out the county sometimes ,,,,bloody tractors lol, ......to be continued

£2500 for a 1.9D?!
Shame you were messed about though, I can see it must be a hassle if you're miles from anywhere.
Can confirm the locks are a problem. Mine are okay, but my old 806 has the issue, and I've seen it on a few Dispatches. Easy to swap out so not a deal breaker. Blower speed resistor +1 too.
Check the rear sliding doors for being flush against the front door. They won't be perfect - they never are - but the further they stick out, the more wind blows in at speed. Take it for a 50mph run if you can. Also check that the tops of those doors are sealed so rain doesn't come in. They can be adjusted so again not a deal breaker, but they are a bit of a whack-a-mole to get right.

Buying vans , eh? I'm still ( sort of ) looking for one, even after I bought one......... I won the auction and emailed the owner about picking me up from the station , what days might be convenient to come etc. I received an email back saying that someone had knocked the door an hour before the auction ended saying " well no one has bid on it, so sell it me cheap." He took it away for £500 less than I had bid for cash on the doorstep. I tried to explain about not bidding until just before the end of the auction so as not to show your hand and all that , but a bit late really after they have just lost about 1/2 the price of the van.......
I'm still looking........

nice red 19D up blackpool with a small dent on wing. Under 1k

Oooh, with fog lights. And do I see all the digits on that odometer?! Reminds me, that's another one to check.
The dented wing is something that leaves me conflicted when considering colour. I'd love a non-white one, but since like 80% of them are white it'd be pretty hard to get replacement panels, doors etc.

Electric windows as well. Aye its strange to see a dash fully working like that. That wing would not bother me. Plenty good paint shops can make a match now but i like to be different so would probably make mini A-Team van. My present van what used to be white

Looking at another this Saturday if it don't sell by then, private sale so can't pay deposit, he reckons it might need camel due, no idea on that extra cost yet, waiting for quotes from garages incase I get it, he's had it 10years so must have been happy with it, only selling due to retiring, keep you posted..........I won't give up

Cambelt replacement isn't too bad. I got mine done I think for £80 cash.
Get the water pump changed while it's off if you end up getting it.
And make sure they line it up straight, not like the reason mine needed changing!

I agree do water pump as well you can if you look get a gates or dayco kit with water pump inc ...............
A good few years ago now we got (known to us) a fairly well maintained and low mileage ford......... just had cam belts done (Part of deal) because of age (IIRC it was 8yrs at time and 35,000ml)... both belts.......... anyway about 6 months later and lucky for us I guess...... we had an issue than meant taking off cambelt cover and FFS..................... The cam sprocket on these 1.8 diesel fords have a resess on them that cambelt run in unlike your photo where teeth stand proud..............
Anyway for whatever reason previous person there had obviously levered this sproket off and bent flange edge and had again obviously tried to repair it so belt would reseat on teeth........
What was happening was the kink left in sproket was shaving the belt away and it was like an elastic band when we discovered it
And not a month previous it had been used on a "Hot shot" to fallingbostel in North ish germany

That's worth at least £100 of sucking air through your teeth. Then as you drive away, hold the button on the dash down as you turn the key. Oh look it's gone!
he will be called Bertie Blue
Blue! I'm somewhat jealous.

We should have a forum meetup when it warms up a bit, give you and OP time to progress on your builds.
