Has anyone here added stretch carpet to their front door panels?

The cold weather is making me notice a cold draught coming from the front of the van. Part of this has to be the plastic door panels being a nice heat exchanger with outside.

So I've bought some 4 way stretch carpet to cover them with. I'm also eventually going to do the sliding doors and some exposed metal, but I'll do the front door panels first because I can replace them if I totally balls it up!

Anyone done it before and have any tips?

No but thought about it when i had my Expert. Looked a right pain of a job so never bothered. I did do the dash on my present van.

I chickened out of doing mine and insulated behind them with cheap camping mat and that plastic wool stuff.  Then I realised that I had blocked the cavity for the window to wind down into.   Worked well on the side and rear doors though, big improvement.  There is room to glue some camping mat behind the window channels though.

My beds are made up from the front and rear seats so you sleep right next to both doors.  After insulating the doors it's incredible how much cold radiates off the door pillars though.  And there is not much you can do to insulate them.  In the worst weather I use a self inflating camping mat on edge between the sides of the seat and the doors.  Fits snug from front to back, keeps out the cold from the pillar, and gives a padded edge to the side of the bed rather than the cold doors.  I carry the mat for outdoor use in summer anyway.

Nah i kid you not. 13 screws and that dash is out and in your hands. 10 minutes to take out all the air vents and its just spray glue and throw carpet on. The recess on the passenger side could be better but its a warmer feel and some less echo what is great when on a euro trip.

I ended up doing this in the end. I started with the front door panels because if I make a right hash of it I can just replace the plastic door panel.

It came out okay though:

I still want to put some carpet inside the middle pocket as a bit of cold air comes through there, and I probably should sort out the speaker hole.

Question is am I brave enough to do the metal pillars.

After tackling the door ................ I don't see why not

If the carpet on the door overlaps the door rubber/seal........ Does it soak up water/moisture from outside?

This is exactly whats happening at my back door. Seems there has been a constant pool of water to the rear of the wheel arch, as demonstrated by the rotten wood I discovered a few weeks ago.
