I'm trying to track down an oil leak, and corresponding oil consumption. In looking around Citroen Service for how the PCV stuff works, I've found this diagram:
It labels the thing bolted to the front of the engine bay (4) as "Gas Recycling Breather" and the hose (5) as "Engine Breather Hose".
I've been filling up the engine oil using that, assuming it's there because the one at the top of the engine is an arse to get to.
Have I been doing it wrong all this time?

Well if you've been doing it wrong all this time then so have I lol It has an easy access screw cap so it must be for filling up with oil surely ?

I checked the manual and even that thinks I'm able to get a bottle into that one on the top of the engine
But I agree, it's surely there for owner use. It has the oil symbol on it and everything

To fill through the top oil filler I make a sort of long funnel out of a 2l coke bottle. I cut a hole where the label is then the funnel can work 'sideways'

Guess who else must have been doing it wrong

You can add this A- *ole to the list
OOOPSS ---according to the chart/list ..... Not only have I/we been putting oil into the wrong orifice as it's conected to an engine breather it in-turn is connected (highlighted in blue) to an Engine water outlet

I assume you've all been doing this with no noticeable negative consequence? I've got a pretty bad oil leak and am pondering whether it's because of this, but if you're all doing it it can't be that.
I still refuse to believe it's not the proper place to fill it!

If you have a leak try the area around the exhauster pump, ( opposite end of the cam from the drive) , it's afairly common place for oil leaks.

Hmm, it does appear to be coming from the right (as you look at it) side of the engine so that could make sense.
I'm not familiar with an exhauster pump, is it towards the top middle or bottom of the engine? If you're saying it's on the cam, do you mean the brake vacuum pump?

I think he means if you're looking at the engine, the cam is on top left, so he means the top right of engine, so thats opposite the cam.
all the components and wizardry around this area is also wet on mine. causing me to fail thy mot yet again.

Well if you look at No 2 on the exploded diagram, it does describe it as the engine oil filler plug so I think we are all safe on that count.
Cheers, Griff.

Another dipstick filler here with no apparent problems.
Strange that Engine water outlet being there though!???

I wonder whether its for condensation which will vent off as vapour when it warms up, as opposed to actual liquid?
Just a thought, Griff.

Yours is the XUD, with that damn filling point that you can't get a 5 litre bottle under the coolant tank =/
