RPM Sensor on DW8s

So apparently there's a sensor on the gearbox that measures theRPM:

I've tried robbing my old Synergie's dash to see if it picks up but alas the plugs are different.

I'd love to get a dash from a 2000+ Synergie/806 and see if it has the same plugs as the Dispatch

In fact, OAT - have you ever had your dash out to see if it has two plugs vertically aligned, or 4 plugs across the top?

Re: RPM Sensor on DW8s

I suppose having a rev counter would be quite cool.
Personally I'd put electric windows on my van wish list!!

Looks like a component worth a few quid.  Surprising that they fit it to an engine when they don't intend to use it.  Why not a blanking plate?

Electric windows can be a pain in a camper Ricko.

Have you ever had your dash out? In my 1996/8 Synergie/806 it had 4 plugs across the top, in my Dispatch it's like this with two plugs:

I'm thinking if the plug difference is an age thing, rather than a car vs van thing, I could get a modern dash from a Synergie/806 and see if I get revs

Only as far as getting to heater controls.

Is that sensor electronic or mechanical?  Looks like a cable drive?

Re: RPM Sensor on DW8s

Guys Guys, that location for a sensor on the gearbox is for the speedometer, it drives off a skew gear that goes over the o/s driveshaft (#1).  The revcounter  reads off a sensor  fitted in the clutch housing that measures crankshaft rotation  ( brown plug?)  I know it says tachometer , but that just means rotations , .... in this case wheel rotations.

Aww, way to rain on the parade sad

But there's still hope! I searched for Tachometer on both my 806 and Dispatch, and got the same results for both:

Re: RPM Sensor on DW8s

kenbw2 I'm not so sure of it working either but Stranger thing happen at sea apparently............

Is this photo answering anything for you ..........

P1120834.jpeg

It's the faulty one I pulled out my 2005 van..........Think all vans might be same ? ..........

As one of the replacements I had was allegedly from an HDI E7 Taxi................ (Both have been under 100,000)

That explains why when I threw an ABS ring off on N/S (year or so ago) and started having by coincidence (It now appears) binnicle issues that the only thing to work correctly was speedometer..........

I always thought Speedo was driven from N/S....... but it is French/Italian right enough........... (Ex MRS is Italian .... Nuff said)

It's also when I learned it was fitted with ABS........... to be honest Ive yet to find locate ABS pump........... not that I'm trying hard...........

Thought I'd add a little intrigue on to this................ I realized when playing about that my "Garmin EcoRoute HD Engine Diagnostic Adapter" Thats permanently plugged into the diagnostic port on van supplies a Gauge option as well as the Diagnostic addons and the Ecoroute functions to my "Garmin Nuvi 2567".............

Gauge features an Engine load, Speed, Water Temp and that all important Rev Counter...... I think there may be other gauges available this is just what popped up when I selected it........... But for some reason I'm not getting a Diagnostic read out for the van ................... Error!

This is a Bluetooth thing very much like You can get with the Torque App on your phone, Tablet ETC...... along with bluetooth plugin for diagnostic port

So I guess there must be an engine speed signal from somewhere.............

If I can I'll post a photo of

Re: RPM Sensor on DW8s

i use one that plugs into the OBD port. says its not compatable with my van but works all fine.  sometimes it makes the coolant temperature gauge not read anything on the dash but on the RPM gauge it always works and has a manually settable alarm for when the coolant gets over a set temperature. it works well and only like £20 from ebay. also supports turbo pressure, voltages, and all kinds of other cool stuff.
