Just back from a few nights out locally. Apart from fuel it costs me no more to be in the van than to stay at home and I have been spending far too much on diesel doing longer trips lately. So I have been looking for more local stopovers rather than use my old ones too frequently.
Although I live in a rural area right next to a national park, there aren't as many really good park ups as you might think. Nice to find a few new ones though :-

I always feel excited when I find new ones, especially locally. It's like you've got a new set of homes. Good to see you've got out and about - doesn't even have to be a fancy long trip.

I'm dying to get away. FB keeps popping up with 1yr ago, 2 yrs ago etc, taunting me by showing where I went in the van.
Nearly finished the wiring in the back today.
I nearly always end up at the same places, a feeling of familiarity I suppose.
Going to do the SWC 300 as a precursor to the NW 500.

I would get the Nw 500 done slightly out of season ........... I have covered most of the NW 500 in the van and several times on the bike and I have to say it has become noticably busier than just a few years ago especially in the touring season and of course weekends which are always tend to be busier anyway ...... it was of all things the increase in Campervans and motor homes ( some parked in single track passing places) along with the tour coaches i'd never experianced beforeto that extent that far north West on a single track road ...... Don't let me put anyone off it's certainly worth doing or in my case a version of ............ It's getting famous and has a good rep ............ The SW 300 is practically on my door step ...... Clearly I take it for granted and don't really pay enough attention to the locality having done a lot of grown up in Southern Ayrshire (native to Glasgow) and subsequently worked out of Stranraer with the Irish ferries and having lived in Dumfries & Galoway region........ I have to say there is lots to see and explore .............If you have a little detour When you get to Kirkcudbright ..... It's just a byre but ask about the coo- palace...... Twynholm (not sure if his meusem is still there) is the home town of Exformula 1 Driver David Coulthard ( I was a sub contracter to his dad when he was still on Go-karts & formula Ford) and if you go into village the Star Hotel pub is where his dad installed Sat TV .... So We could all watch him..... Don't forget the Dark Sky Park Observatory Dalmelington (nearer Craigengillan) ........... Not even to scratch the surface

I would go further than vaz and suggest you forget the commercial exploitation of what has always been there for free and find your own way Ricko.
Unless you like convoys of "quirky" conformists, van lifers, weekend hippies and of course Winnebago Warriors :-

I think I only want to do the NW500 so I can put a sticker on the van!!
I might get a Dispatch Expert Scudo Forum sticker made!!
I love the D&G area as it's not too far away for me.
