Another new member, hello.

Hello all meet "Boris" Picked this up last week, got it booked in for new glow plugs and oil change just for peace of mind. Hes a bit battered n bruised and my first ever diesel ! 1.9d 02 plate 144k.

Hi Boris. I just got the same van in Blue last week. Yet to name it though and got to put a new exhaust on t the weekend so depending on how that goes it may end up being called bastard van

Hi and welcome to the forum.
To keep your diesel going forever: oil change, oil change, oil change...
Consider having the fuel filter changed.
Don't be misled with glow plugs they don't do the same job as a spark plug so only need changing if they're faulty, they're not really a service item.

Is the fuel filter an easy diy job ?
No conversion plans as yet, but you never know.

Black oval container under expansion tank. Take lid off, Pull out paper filter and replace with new. Sick lid back on and if needed press teh prime knob a few times and fire it up.

Its quite a shit design dont you think? Not changed it in this van as its just been serviced but remember struggling to get it back on with the last. Did i read there was no return pipe going through the housing? Just wondering of there is a better housing and filter out there that can be made to fit.

Yea I'm not impressed. iirc mine was held on with cable ties when I got it. I'm sure they thought it was great on a brand new van with spare parts plentiful, just not 20 years later.

I looked into the return lines a lot when I set up my twin tank. There is a return, from the pump to the tank but that doesn't go via the filter. The leak off pipes though do go back to the filter.

So what exactly does leak off do? In my convoy i dont have this. Just feed and return pipes. I was thinking along the lined of this for my Dispatch

Think changing that filter and housing is on the cards then. I hate that cheap plastic clip that much. A quick search says new canister filters are under a tenner so its just a case of a T piece on the fuel feed before the filter for that leak off pipe.
