Hmmm, yes that Bluegrass festival in Moniave sounds like a plan. Can vans park on the camping field?
Any links for more info to that festival?

It was mentioned in a previous post earlier in this thread. I recognised Moniave from my wanderings in D & G, I just did a Google search, there's a web page for it.

I've mentioned this before on the forum - but in this neck of the woods there is a properly brilliant little Bluegrass Festival at a village called Moniaive. Super-friendly, great music [I wasn't a bluegrass fan until I went], big field for [cheap] camping [with loos] and 90% of the entertainment is free. Most of the music is just folks jamming [to a high standard] in the two brilliant pubs in the village.
I guess Tiree would be the one to answer that query but probably we wont be the only ones in camper vans/caravans etc. If it's a well established festival people will travel from far and wide.

You are correct Casper the Main Moniavie Folk festival your talking about is in May
This is more Bluegrass version festival (w/end) in Moniaive in Sept..................
The Main sort of bluegrass event In D&G (Carsphairn world ceilidh ) will be The Knockengorroch which is also in May
The Eden festival was on about 3 weeks ago on the road out to beattock (A701 st Anns bridge)

Not my kind of music then. Think the Eden one i could do. Seen a line up a couple of years back what would have been not bad. Got out LDV Facebook page meet next weekend so will be looking for places to go for some weekends before the end of the year.

I found this on one of the links to the summer music workshop in July, saying there is no vehicle access to the campsite. Not sure if it is the same for the September gig but there is a free public car park in the village.

Map below shows the location of a Free Car Park in Moniaive suitable for use by Campervans & Caravans during the Summer Workshop Weekend
Got to say it aint my kinda music either but any kind of live music combined with good company and a beer or whatever you drink and it's a recipe for a good time.
Anyway the whole idea is to have a get together for members of the forum, so anyone who doesn't want to see the bands really doesn't have to.
Cheers, Griff.

Totally agree. I'm up for parking somewhere remote, but if the festival is a good way to crystallise a plan, then that's great.
I have to say I'm struggling to grasp what the proposed plan is though!

Me too. Still up for almost anywhere north of M62 almost anytime myself. Or will be when I get my MOT sorted.
If someone can explain the Moniavie suggestion I may be interested. It looks to be a music "workshop" rather than a festival though?
I also thought Widdybank an ideal spot for space and no chance of complaints from locals.

Follow Rico's link and click on calendar, scroll down and it gives you this.
11th Moniaive Michaelmas Bluegrass Festival
Bluegrass, old time, americana and gospel music concerts over the weekend in beautiful Moniaive.
Instrument workshops, jamming sessions on the campsite and in hotels and a whole lot more besides.
Watch this space to see when tickets can be purchased.
When: Fri September 27 7:30 pm - Sun September 29 11:30 pm
Where: Glencairn Memorial Institute, Chapel Street, Moniaive.
I don't have a problem with the festival or somewhere more remote. Tiree made the suggestion of the festival earlier and as the topic had dried up in regard to dates and places to meet, I mentioned it to get things going again.
Not a problem if no one wants to go but that takes us right back to square one again.
Cheers, Griff.

I quite fancy it myself Griffin and may go anyway.
Slight concern re the park up situation though. The suggested village car park is not in a bad spot and surrounded by fields, but it isn't that big. With no cars allowed in the camping field, it will surely get full?
Offline
Yeah I agree, but being out in the sticks there should be somewhere to park reasonably close and it could be on a different field from the earlier workshop event, which allows parking. Tickets should be on sale soon so we may get more details then.
Cheers, Griff.

My brother's got a Citroen Synergie which he uses as a camper sometimes - as you likely know is just a Dispatch with a low roof and more furnishings. Would the forum welcome him joining us?

I know it's meant to be a Forum meet that's being juggled about
But I don't see why not and if it is an issue

Not a problem to me, it's a free world. wherever we do meet up it'll be a public place open to all I'd guess. Hell yeah, the more the merrier. Just so long as he isn't a member of the secret EGR valve police

Only if he adjusts his sliding doors to allow the trade mark draught and wind noise. Perhaps he should disable the heater blower too?

Vans / tents / caravans / unimogs etc in the camping field is the norm!
I'll be there - it's a beautiful place and a brilliant festival:

Booked to camp for the weekend.
Reckon I'll be there Fri & Sat nights.
Fingers crossed for some sunshine but there's plenty of shelter in the form of pubs and free venues.

So far I can see OAT, GRIFFIN and Tiree as confirmed attendees. Anyone else?
I'm super tight on things time this weekend so I'm seeing if I can squeeze this in myself, if not just for one day/night
