Stop solenoid top removal?? does it remove? Need a bodge fix ASAP.

Hope someone can help please, I think the stop solanoid on my 04 1.9d dispatch has had it, van wont start and its getting hot - I see there is a bodge that you can remove the top of it, but how? Please see pic.mini_chrome_2019-08-01_13-43-51.jpeg

I did test with 12v and while there is a click nothing moves. :-/

Thanks in advance,
Stu.

Hi Stu.

A mate of mine had his stop solenoid fail and he told me that he got it out by using a Dremel to cut into the housing and then changed it. he said the garage wanted to change the injector pump and that was going to be stupidly expensive. I'll get in touch with him and get the full story.

Cheers, Griff.

I had this on my Berlingo I replaced the solonoid with an older model with the single wire and connected that wire to the positive side of the reversing light switch.

Or if it is a single wire one then you just need a new one (they are only about a fiver)

Re: Stop solenoid top removal?? does it remove? Need a bodge fix ASAP.

Hi Guys,

Thanks or replying, it turns out I was changing the advanced whats it solenoid instead of the fuel cut off/immobiliser one,  after trying all sorts and then ignoring the van for a few days as it was annoying me, I set back to it tonight and have replaced said fuel cut off solenoid after some faffing, can anyone please advise where best to get the 12v feed for this, reversing light switch? lol Also have a new TPS and Fuel Advance solenoid so I'm hoping once it has a 12v feed, I can prime the bulb, crack injector 4 and turn her over... expecting some fuel!

Some pics attached of said bodge...

Just Looking at your photos Stu and this one of mine has obviously been done. I will follow the red wire on mine and see where it goes to.
Cheers, Griff.

Well, i found the 12v reverse light feed, still wont start but I think the starter has had it and its just not turning fast enough as I've now got fuel at injectors etc. Argh! - French crap! lol -Delphi sometiemes shows 128rpm when its cranking but still wont start and smoke billowing out starter.. don't wanna spend on a starter tho lol.

If you are getting fuel, what about your glow plugs?

to be honest i think irs air and crap starter, when i skoosh in easy start it coughs then bogs/slows, sounds like it wants to go though, seems like starter cannot cope with compression /the fire??

FFS Starter big_smile

Where did you go SCB? Do you still have that one up at Camps Ind Est? Got back doors with glass for my last Expert from there a few years back. Seemed keenly priced at £50

Hi bud, I rarely go to SCB these days as their prices are terrible, not sure of a breakers at camps, used to be one up greendykes in Broxburn if that's where you mean maybe? - I ended up at Jocky Campbells in Bathgate/Armadale as things are usually free, £1 or £20 for things like starter motors. smile - They do have a 04 plate expert in just now but not much left of it to be honest.

A mate in Bathgate went to that Campbells for me to find a spare wheel hanger. No joy but found one local. GM Autos in Camps Ind Est

Funny my mate Alan worked in SCB till he he went self employed this year so i used to give him the nod what i wanted and got it cheap but before that, aye. They were a tad expensive. I would rather go over to Kirkcaldy to Randolph Auto Salvage before the days of internet.

Re: Stop solenoid top removal?? does it remove? Need a bodge fix ASAP.

Runs great ish, but still getting terrible fuel economy, random rev surge when starting etc, tried different grades of diesel, no difference, seems to be overheating at times but no sign of HG failure, have freed the brakes off etc etc, i did read disconnecting the vac for egr can help with this? - I mean I think I've done something silly like 840 miles to £180 of diesel, so somethings clearly not right. All it needs is some basic tlc possibly but might just scrap come end of MOT date, been offered £220 lol

So much for a 'cheaper than a b&b' get about the UK vehicle lol.

Im working your fuel out as 27mpg. I only get 35 on a run or driving miss daisy out my 1.9D so if you are booting it round town and forgetting you have five gears then its not far off. How is your fuel return pipes, any damp areas. one of mine was leaking costing me a few mpg. I presumed i had a rocker cover leak but it was diesel cleaning all the shit from the head down. Got half a clean engine now big_smile

Re: Stop solenoid top removal?? does it remove? Need a bodge fix ASAP.

Hi guys, sorry for the long time posting, got pissed off with it and almost scrapped it, but I'm just a drive shaft and a driverside wishbone with new ball joint away from using it again after welding sills etc etc.

It may be slow and need twek timing wise with the fuel economy, but I've invested so much time in this "cheap camper/bike van" that I'll need to keep it and MOT it on the 21st of September...it ain't no Caddy but will do for now. smile

Edit: Aside of mechanical I've been sorting carpet, bubble/alloy insulation, 12v LED's, split charge, side vents etc etc, will eventually show pics, usually too busy with work and trying to do things to van and etc etc etc don;t always take pics, I can perhaps show some of the driveshaft etc fails after thinking i can change a boot and then get a hand full of needle bearings etc etc etc lol.
