First trial run with the caravan.....

Gave my synergie it's first test run with the caravan yesterday. Caravan is 1500kg gross, probably around 1300kg without all our kit in it. Surprisingly for a TD (xud) it pulled it fairly well. Struggled uphill but kept up to speed without being too slow. Very stable too which surprised me. Only thing I noticed, up the long hills (not that long, I only did a 20 mile run) longest hill might have been a mile maybe, from a standing start at full throttle, the engine got to about 100°c. It could be me being paranoid, but I'm wary of longer hills on hot days..... Does anyone tow heavy and if so what do you find to be a normal temp for it to get to?

Worth noting, the coolant seems to be just water so I'll be giving it a good flush soon and fill with the right antifreeze, this may help cooling efficiency. Radiator fan works fine too. I'm considering replacing the radiator in case it's corroded inside reducing its efficiency. But then again, it could be completely normal and my paranoia causing me to do unnecessary work lol

Gypsies and pikies are not the same thing. I'm offended now!

Is there enough space to squeeze in another fan and have it on a switch? Just for emergencies and steep hills??

I wouldn't have thought so. It may be that it's normal and I'm just being paranoid, that's why I'm trying to find out if anyone else has a similar experience

Re: First trial run with the caravan.....

You could try releasing the bonnet to the safety catch.  Doubt you will be going quick enough to pop it and it might increase air flow.  Had an old Escort it worked wonders for but might not be as effective with modern air scoops and baffles etc.

That is a big van though.
